NRL round 7: Cowboys v Titans

St George Illawarra and Sydney Roosters line up in their traditional Anzac Day clash at the SCG on Monday afternoon. Read on for our match preview, prediction and odds update.

The Dragons are rank outsiders for this one with bookies at around $4.10 but we will seek to find some value in a match in which they can lift for the big occasion.

NRL round 7 schedule, 2022 title odds update

The Roosters have won the past seven matches between these teams by an average of just over 16 points, with the Dragons’ latest win coming back on Anzac Day 2018.

With just two wins from six games this season, it’s clear the Dragons need to lift to trouble the Roosters, who are sitting fifth on the NRL table with four wins from their six matches.

But the Roosters have yet to prove themselves this season against quality opposition, with their four wins coming against the Sea Eagles, Cowboys, Broncos and Warriors. They failed badly when tested against arch rivals Souths, and have not been overly impressive in beating teams that won’t be playing finals.

Meanwhile, the Dragons’ four losses have come against likely top-four contenders the Panthers, Sharks, Eels and Rabbitohs, indicating this match could well be closer than the bookies and punters expect. Their wins came against the Warriors and Knights.

Dragons v Roosters team news for round 7

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin keeps the faith with the 17 that got the job done against the Knights last weekend.

The Roosters regain former Panthers centre Paul Momirovski in place of Kevin Naiqama, with powerful forward Siosiua Taukeiaho replacing Daniel Suluka-Fifita on the pine.

Dragons v Roosters free betting tips

Our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for Monday’s game.

Dragons to win/match total under 39.5 points

This option is paying $7.50 with leading Aussie bookmaker TopSports. The Anzac Day matches between these teams over the years have traditionally been lower-scoring than usual and we expect more of the same, with the Dragons looking great value to cause an upset.

Jack Bird to score a try at $5.90

The Dragons veteran has been in rare try-scoring form this season with four from six matches and no reason he can’t crash over at good odds in the anytime try-scorer markets again.

St George Illawarra Dragons v Sydney Roosters prediction 25-4-2022

This is a match in which the bookies and many pundits expect the Roosters to blow away their rivals and stamp their credentials as a premiership contender. That is certainly possible but we don’t expect that this time, especially in the big Anzac Day slot. We think the Roosters are not in great form, while the Dragons’ form has not been as bad as a 2-4 record would indicate. For that reason we think all the value in betting on this match lies with the outsiders, especially with the 12.5 points start! Our Dragons v Roosters prediction: Dragons by 4 points.
