Fremantle v Richmond tips and prediction; AFL rd 20 preview 2021

Welcome to our Fremantle v Richmond betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL round 20 clash being played at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

This match looms as a make or break deal for these teams, with both fighting for the eighth position on the ladder and seemingly finished for 2021 if they drop another game.

The 10th-placed Tigers desperately need a victory with the last five rounds netting them just one win and a season-ending kidney injury to their star Dustin Martin.

Also on 32 points, the 12th-placed Dockers have a slightly worse percentage, and have lost successive games and their own superstar and captain Nat Fyfe to a season-ending shoulder injury.

Richmond is the online bookmakers elect for this contest, priced at $1.52 to win, despite being on the road and their indifferent form. The Dockers are offering some value at $2.53, while the line was hovering around 9.5 early on match day.

The Dockers have suffered multiple blows ahead of this game, with Fyfe, Michael Walters and Alex Pearce all injured. Joel Western Josh Treacy and Tobe Watson have been included.

The Tigers have rushed back premiership midfielder Dion Prestia, who has endured an injury-plagued season, with Marlion Pickett (managed) and Josh Caddy (medi-sub) out of the line-up.

Fremantle v Richmond tips

Our AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the markets and found some value Fremantle v Richmond tips:

Matt Taberner to kick 3+ goals

Fremantle forward Matt Taberner is playing his 100th game and he will sense an opportunity against an undersized Tigers’ backline. Last week we saw Tom Hawkins and Esava Ratugolea put the Tigers to the sword with four goals each and while we are not suggesting Taberner is as good as the Cats superstar, he is the exact type of player that is troubling the reigning champion, in the absence of Nick Vlastuin and Noah Balta.

Tom Lynch to kick 3+ goals

At the other end, Tigers spearhead Tom Lynch has been struggling, but we’re not sure it’s all his fault. The Tigers have played some good teams, with outstanding key defenders but it’s their ball movement we think that has curtailed Lynch. The Tigers should have room to breath against the Dockers and Lynch looks primed for a strong showing.

Trent Cotchin to have 20 possessions

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has copped some flack this season and we think when they need him the most, he will play a strong game. Cotchin is also offering $1.57 to reach 20 possessions, which is outstanding value at Unibet betting.

Fremantle v Richmond prediction 1/8/2021

Not many AFL fans would have picked Richmond to be fighting for their finals life with four rounds to play in 2021, but injuries and father time appear to have caught up with them. The Dockers will fancy an upset and the opportunity to keep their season alive, but they begin to look a little frail through the midfield without Fyfe. With Prestia back for the Tigers, we think they might just get there. Our final Fremantle v Richmond prediction? Tigers by 11 points.
