This Roosters-Knights clash is the more important, with the Roosters battling to stay in touch with the top four, while the Knights are sitting in 10th spot with their finals chances balanced on a knife’s edge. The Knights need an upset win here to really put themselves in the frame for a finals spot.

The Roosters, though, have a long history of dominance against the Knights, having won nine of their past 10 meetings, and most of those have not even been close.

When the teams met at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium in round eight this season, it was all one-way traffic as the Roosters won 38-4.

Sydney Roosters regain star fullback James Tedesco for this clash after he missed the fighting 34-18 win against the Cowboys last weekend. Tedesco was taking a break after a torrid State of Origin campaign.

Forward Siosiua Taukeiaho has also been named after a hamstring issue and replaces Fletcher Baker on the pine.

The Knight are coming off a 48-4 thrashing at the hands of title favourites Melbourne Storm, a match in which they lost fullback Kalyn Ponga and prop David Klemmer to first-half head knocks.

Ponga has been named to play but Klemmer is out, while NSW prop Daniel Saifiti makes a welcome return from a rib injury. Sauaso Sue is also back from a hamstring injury.

Roosters v Knights tips

Our NRL betting expert has cast his eye over the odds for some Roosters v Knights tips:

Knights +10.5 points/match total over 46.5

We are happy to be on the Knights with the start as long as Ponga takes his place at fullback. He makes that much difference to them, while the Roosters simply are not travelling well enough to be back with too much conviction.

Full-time tri-bet 6.5 points

This type of bet is available with TopSport and has three options: Roosters -6.5 points, Knights -6.5 points and any other result, which equates to a margin of less than 6.5 points by either team. We are happy to be on the final option at $3.45 as we think this one will be closer than the bookies think.

Roosters v Knights prediction 23/7

We were bullish about the Knights before the season started but not much has gone right, with injuries to key players such as Ponga, halfback Mitchell Pearce and blockbusting young centre Bradman Best. Pearce is due back next week, but the Knights need to make a stand now. We think they can match the Roosters for a lot of this contest but the Roosters also have a lot at stake in this one as they seek to win three games in a row for the first time this season. Our final Roosters v Knights prediction? Roosters by 2 points.
