Rabbitohs v Roosters Friday March 25, 2022

Welcome to our Sydney Roosters-South Sydney Rabbitohs betting preview for their NRL round-24 clash at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Friday, August 27.

This is a massive encounter between two bitter rivals, but especially important for the Roosters who are engaged in a thrilling battle for fourth spot against surging Manly.

This is the second match of two on Friday night, with New Zealand Warriors and Canberra Raiders meeting in the earlier match from 6pm at BB Print Stadium in Mackay.

But the clear match of the round is the Roosters-Rabbitohs, and to say these teams don’t like each other is a massive understatement, with their rivalry almost as old as rugby league in Australia itself.

The Roosters are sitting in fourth spot, while Souths are secure in third place with the finals just weeks away, so the Roosters will have the extra motivation.

But this is a wonderful opportunity for Souths to deliver a massive blow to their rivals and probably kill off their chances of making an impact in September.

This is a chance Wayne Bennett and his team will not want to miss.

The Rabbitohs have won the past two matches between these teams, including a 26-6 win at Stadium Australia in round three this year.

Souths also inflicted a huge body blow to the Roosters last season when they blitzed them 60-8 in round 20, with the finals looming.

More injury woes for Roosters

Roosters have named prop Siosiua Taukeiaho (head knock) to play but will lose centre Adam Keighran (head knock) and young forward Nat Butcher (knee).

But another prop in Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (knee) will definitely miss, with Fletcher Baker to start at prop and Tuku Hau Tapuha on the pine.

Souths have some doubt over dynamic hooker Damien Cook (calf), with veteran Benji Marshall the man to move off the bench of Cook is a late out.

Winger Jaxson Paulo replaces veteran Josh Mansour, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the loss to the Panthers last weekend.

Sydney Roosters v Souths tips

Our NRL expert has examined the betting markets and found some value Roosters-Rabbitohs tips:

Souths -12.5 points/match total over 48.5 points at $3

This option is available under doubles markets at PlayUp. With a clear day and fast track expected in Brisbane, we should see the full force of Souths’ brilliant attack in action. All the money early this week has been for the Bunnies to cover the line.

Latrell Mitchell to score 2+ tries

It’s on thing to know he is coming, but it’s another thing entirely to stop him. Mitchell in full flight is one of the best sights in the NRL and he is at peak form. He would love a try or two against his old team in this big match.

Sydney Roosters v Souths prediction 27/8/2021

Souths are as short as $1.21 at Australian betting sites and that’s fair enough as they are great shape with the finals coming up quickly. The Roosters have been brave for a long time this season but with a couple of their key big front-rowers likely to miss, it’s hard to to see how they stop the Rabbitohs’ up the middle, let along on the flanks where the Bunnies can be brilliant. It will be interesting to see how the Roosters go about it and we hope this is a match for the ages, but we suspect the Rabbitohs will just be too good all over in this one. Our final Roosters v Rabbitohs prediction? Souths to win by 20 points.
