NRL round 18 title betting update
The Titans will go into this match as underdogs but hoping to find momentum off the back of their big win against Canberra and also the Queensland win in Origin III in which three of their players played key roles.
Parramatta have won the past four matches between these teams by an average of 25.5 points, including a 46-6 thrashing in round 2 in their only meeting for the 2020 season.
Of course, things have changed since but you can never really be sure which Titans team will turn up on any given day. Their challenge is to close the gap between their best and worst performances.
The Titans have named Maroons trio Moeaki Fotuaika, Tino Fa’asumaleaui and AJ Brimson, while they also have David Fifita available after he missed Origin through suspension.
Meanwhile, the Eels have rested Blues star Junion Paulo, but regain clever hooker Reed Mahoney after a stint out with a shoulder injury. Marata Niukore replaces Paulo in the front row.
Gold Coast Titans v Parramatta Eels tips
Our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for Friday night’s game.
Titans +4.5 points/under 48.5 points
The Titans will relish being on their home turf and it’s now or never for them to stake a claim for a final spot. The Eels are a good side and have not lost to a team outside the eight this season, but we consider the Titans a top-eight side and think they can cause a surprise here in a brutal forward battle.
Corey Thompson to score exactly one try
The Titans winger is a slippery customer and is always a threat. We expect tries to be tough to come by so we will back him to score exactly one at $3 with TopSport, and run the risk he won’t add a second or more!
Titans v Eels prediction 16-7-2021
The Titans are one of the few middle-tier teams with a pack that can more than match the Eels powerful unit, which is their great strength. If the three Origin players backing up can reproduce what they did on Wednesday night for Qld that will be a huge shot in the arm for the home team. We don’t want to underestimate the Eels but just feel this is a chance for the Titans to make a statement. If they lose their season is in danger of fizzling out.. Our Titans-Eels prediction: Titans by 6 points.
