Sportsbooks have changed up the prices, with NZ into $2.20, equal with India, with the draw priced at $5.50.
But we still think New Zealand should be firm favourites on the back of their wonderful home record in recent years, combined with the lack of form of Indian superstar Virat Kohli. The captain’s struggles have not been helped by losing experienced opening duo Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan to injury.
The Kiwis’ record at home under captain Kane Williamson is super. In 18 Tests since he took the reins, they have lost just once, against South Africa.

What to expect at Hagley Oval, Christchurch,

This is a picturesque ground at which Trent Boult and particularly Tim Southee have destroyed batting line-ups since the first Test here in 2014. The Kiwis have a good record in the short Test history of the ground, losing only once, to Australia, and drawing once, with four victories.
It is a ground which gives the bowlers plenty of opportunities and generally favours the seam bowlers.
It is the home ground for NZ batsmen Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham, who play for Canterbury in domestic cricket.

NZ v India Test cricket team news

New Zealand were fantastic in the first Test, and debutant Kyle Jamieson took 4-39 in the first innings to announce his arrival in Test cricket.
But the Kiwi selectors face something of a dilemma with star left-armer Neil Wagner, who missed the first Test to be at the birth of his first child, available again. Wagner is rated the No.2 bowler in Test cricket and he, Trent Boult and Tim Southee all have outstanding records at Hagley Oval.
Of course, the Kiwis could go with four pacemen, meaning spinner Ajaz Patel would miss out.
India are unlikely to be too radical with their team selection; they simply need to get more runs out of their top order and for strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah to return to his top form.

NZ v India 2nd Test betting tips

New Zealand to win at $2.20

We will stick with the Kiwis to inflict another defeat on an Indian side that has been a little disappointing in the ODIs the first Test. India really need the likes of youngster Prithvi Shaw and Kohli to step up with a big score, but we expect it’s going to be extremely diffciult batting against a Kiwis attack that was relentlessly accurate in Wellington.

Henry Nicholls to top-score in NZ first innings

This is the home ground for the left-hander and he made 162 not out the last time he played a Test at Hagley Park. We expect the middle orders of both teams to get plenty of opportunities here. Horses for courses and at $8 with Ladbroke’s, Nicholls will do us.

Mohammed Shami most wickets for India first innings

The paceman was serviceable in the first match and has always had the knack for taking wickets. His partner in crime Bumrah has been a little down on wicket-taking form while the Kiwi batters will be wary of Ishant Sharma, the most damaging bowler for the Indians in the first Test. Shami is the sort of bowler who regularly slips under the opposition’s guard.

New Zealand v India predictions – 2nd Test, Feb 29, 2020

We expect a tight and tense affair with the draw seeming unlikely unless the weather intervenes. India will no doubt respond and they are a supremely talented team, but the Kiwis are an experienced, professional outfit and they have plenty in their favour heading into this match. None the least of which is, all of a sudden, a potent-looking bowling attack. We’re happy to be on the Kiwis in this one. Good punting.
