United States v Tonga betting tips, odds, predictions – RWC 2019 Match 38

Tonga Rugby World Cup betting preview & tips

Welcome to our free predictions and odds update for match 38 of the Rugby World Cup between USA and Tonga at Hanazono Rugby Stadium on Sunday, October 13.
Both teams are winless heading into their final match so have the motivation of not wanting to leave Japan empty-handed.
History and form point to a 10-point win or so for Tonga.

Tonga have won eight of the nine matches between these teams. The USA won the first clash between the nations 30-10 in San Francisco in 1999, but Tonga have won the eight matches since, with the most recent clash in 2016 also the closest finishing 20-17.

The Tongans gave France a mighty scare during the week when they lost 23-21 and that is good enough form for us to approach this match with some confidence that Tonga will win well, although weather may play a hand.

United States v Tonga tips RWC2019

Tonga -4.5 points at $1.91

They are a powerful unit when they get rolling, Tonga, and they did dominate for lengthy patches against the tier-on French. Of course, they have to adjust to going into a match as the favourites. It’s one thing to play well against the odds, but another entirely to step up and win as the punters’ fancy. We think they are a season enough side to take care of the USA, who have struggled to score freely.

Siale Piutau anytime try-scorer at $3.50

The Tongan captain and centre will be playing his final Test for his country and what better way to go out than with a win and a try. We are sure his teammates will want to get him over the line.

United States v Tonga prediction

This was always going to be the best chance for either of these two teams to notch up a win given the other three teams in the pool are all genuine tier-one nations. Weather permitting this should be an entertaining clash as the Americans have shown they don’t mind mixing it up in the middle of the field.
Tonga just have the slightly stronger pedigree heading into this clash and we see them winning a fairly high-scoring clash.
