South Africa v West Indies ODI series preview, tips and predictions

South Africa v West Indies ODI series betting tips & prediction

South Africa will enter a three match ODI series against the West Indies as a hot favourite, with betting sites pricing them as short as 1.26 to win the opening game on Thursday.

The Proteas are the sixth-ranked team in one-day international cricket, while the Windies have slumped to 10th, behind minnows like Bangladesh and Afghanistan, a remarkable fall for the once mighty Caribbean team.

The opening two matches of the series will be played at Buffalo Park, in East London in the Eastern Cape district of South Africa, while the third match of the series will be at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, North West Province.

South Africa clinched a two-match Test series against the West Indies 2-0 on Saturday, in a dominant display, but it’s hard to use this as a gauge for white ball cricket.

The Proteas have wasted no time in recalling star keeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, who has retired from the Test arena despite being only 30 years old.

However they have opted to rest star pace bowlers Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, with youngster Gerald Coetzee set to be given his opportunity. Talented young batsmen Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs are also set to be blooded.

The West Indies have included Shannon Gabriel in their team, with the burly paceman showing strong form in domestic cricket and is a noted new ball bowler. Roston Chase has also been included in the squad that will be captained by Shai Hope.

Below we will highlight the squads for the three match one-day series, the fixtures and give your our free South Africa v West Indies tips and predictions.

South Africa v West Indies ODI betting tips

The WGL cricket betting expert has assessed the odds and found some value South v West Indies betting tips for the ODI series:

Shannon Gabriel most wickets

It seems unlikely to the West Indies would bring their veteran fast bowler to South Africa unless they were going to play him and he is a noted wicket-taker. Gabriel has the ability when bowling well to trouble the somewhat flakey Proteas top-order and he is paying 4.40 to take the most wickets when the Windies bowl first. Some betting sites will even have markets for bowlers to take the most wickets in the series, with Gabriel’s odds potentially being as long as 15.00.

Quinton de Kock to top-score

It’s hard to see the South Africans star — Quinton de Kock — not doing some damage with the bat in this series at some point. We were gutted to see that he is not playing red ball cricket anymore and we hope to see the best of him in the shorter formats. de Kock is offering some nice value at 3.80 to top-score in the Proteas first bat and will be a reliable option throughout the three match ODI series. van der Dussen is also a good option in this market.

South Africa v West Indies prediction for ODI series

The West Indies have become a true disappointment in world cricket, especially for those who can remember their dominant teams in the 1970s and 80s. They have some batsmen with some series talent like Nicholas Pooran and Kyle Mayers, but there is just no consistency. For this reason we think the Proteas will win the series and win it well with de Kock and Temba Bavuma leading the way. If you want a lucrative option, back the Proteas to win the series 2-1, because the visitors are due their one in 10 strong performance. Our final South Africa v West Indies ODI prediction? Proteas to win the series 2-1.
