Pointsbet.ca begins Alberta expansion as legal iGaming nears
PointsBet Canada has begun the registration process in Alberta, positioning the operator to enter the province ahead of the launch of Canada’s second open and competitive regulated iGaming market.
The company confirmed it is now authorised to commence marketing activities under the streamlined framework overseen by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis.
Eligible Alberta residents can pre-register via the Pointsbet.ca website to receive launch updates and an exclusive welcome offer, with a full platform rollout expected in the coming months.

Chief executive Scott Vanderwel said Alberta’s shift toward a competitive iGaming framework was the right time to strike for Pointsbet.
“Alberta’s move toward an open, competitive iGaming framework is a positive step for Canadian players, offering more choice and consumer protections in a safe and regulated environment,” he said.
“We’re excited to introduce our innovative, Canadian-focused sports betting and online casino products to Alberta residents, supported by industry-leading speed, responsible gaming tools, and local expertise.”
The move marks a significant step for PointsBet Canada as Alberta prepares to follow Ontario in opening its online sports betting and casino market to private operators.
PointsBet Canada said it remains committed to delivering a Canadian-built platform tailored specifically to local market needs as Alberta’s regulated iGaming launch approaches.
Alberta paved the way Pointsbet’s expansion in May 2025 when they announced their iGaming framework would legalise the industry, but they are yet to announce a launch date.
Pointsbet, which is headquartered in Australia, has shown strong growth in Ontario since its launch on April 4, 2022, with upwards of 50 operators now licensed to operate in the Canadian province.
