Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips and prediction
Welcome to our Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips and winner prediction for their Gather Round clash at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Hawks (1.72) have been installed favourites by Australian betting sites, with the undefeated, but injury-hit Bulldogs (2.55) surprisingly outsiders.
The Hawks-Dogs line has been set at a paltry 5.5 points, which is too narrow for our tastes, while the total points market is at 183.5.
MORE: AFL betting tips
The Hawks are coming off an extremely lucky one-point win against Geelong on Easter Monday, when they snatched a win in the dying minutes after trailing most of the day.
They have won three from four matches this year, but have had a relatively soft draw, with this including wins over Essendon and a Sydney team missing key players.
The Hawks have included Cam Mackenzie and Karl Amon for the clash, with Jack Dalton and Jack Scrimshaw (managed) omitted.
The Bulldogs in contrast have beaten reigning premier Brisbane, GWS, Adelaide in Adelaide and Essendon most recently.
But they will face the Hawks without no.1 ruckman Tim English (knee) and talented small forward Arthur Jones (hamstring), while Lachie Jaques and and Lachlan McNeil have been omitted.
They will be boosted by the inclusion of Ed Richards, who has seemingly pulled off a miracle recovery from a knee injury, suffered just days ago, first-gamer Louis Emmett, Cooper Hynes and Harvey Gallagher.
Emmett faces the tough ask of rucking against Hawks giant Ned Reeves and Lloyd Meek, but will receive a chop out from several of their key forwards, including Sam Darcy and Jordan Croft.
Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs betting tips
Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Hawks v Bulldogs tips:
Marcus Bontempelli 25+ possessions
The Bont has been on fire to start 2026 and the Brownlow Medal does not look beyond him. The Hawks will put some time into the Dogs star, but they tend to focus on their system, more than one player. He’s a nice leg for same game multis, priced at around 1.45 for 25+. Teammate Matthew Kennedy has reached 30 possessions in two of his last four games and looms as another to consider for your same game multis.
Jai Newcombe 25+ possessions
The Hawks mainstay in the midfield needs to play well, or his team will struggle to beat the Bulldogs through the guts. Newcombe wins his own ball, which makes him incredibly hard to tag. He’s always close to the 25+ possession mark and at around 1.70 is nice value with AFL betting sites. Josh Ward has reached 25 possessions in his last two outings and is at 2.15 for Saturday night.
At odds: Rhylee West 2+ goals
The Dogs have dropped McNeil and lost Jones which means West is likely to end up closer to goal, a role he excelled in last year. His lack of scoreboard output in 2026 has seen his odds balloon out to 7.50 to kick 2+ against the Hawks, in conditions that are likely to suit smalls. It’s opportunities like this we look for, even if it takes a few weeks to hit pay dirt.
Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs prediction
The Hawks are exceptionally well drilled and continue to win, despite not having the most talented list in the AFL. The likes of Nick Watson and Jack Ginnivan make them entertaining to watch, but we’re just not sure they have the weapons to truly challenge this year. And we’re not sure they should be favourites against the Bulldogs, even with English out. We’re going to take the better odds on offer for a Dogs win, in a match we mark as about even money. Our final Hawks v Bulldogs prediction? Bulldogs by six points.
