Play ‘n Go secure Alberta licence ahead of market launch
Swedish gaming supplier Play’n GO has secured a licence to enter Alberta’s soon-to-launch regulated online gambling market, extending the company’s North American footprint as Canadian provinces continue to open their doors to private operators.
The licence was awarded by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission and will allow Play’n GO to supply its portfolio of online casino games to licensed operators once Alberta’s regulated gambling market officially goes live later this year.
The move marks another expansion point for the Swedish supplier in Canada, where it already operates in Ontario and Quebec. Alberta is expected to become one of the next major regulated online gambling jurisdictions in North America as provinces increasingly shift toward competitive private-sector models similar to Ontario’s framework.
Play’n Go said it had already begun aligning its technology and game portfolio with Alberta’s regulatory requirements, with an initial batch of titles currently undergoing certification ahead of launch.
The company has positioned the Alberta approval as part of a broader strategy focused exclusively on regulated markets, a stance it has repeatedly promoted amid ongoing debates around black-market gambling operators in North America.
Magnus Olsson, chief commercial officer at Play’n GO, described the Alberta licence as “another important step” in the company’s North American growth strategy.
“Regulated markets are the foundation of our business, and Alberta represents an exciting opportunity to expand our footprint in a jurisdiction that shares our commitment to high standards, player protection and long-term sustainability,” Olsson said.
Alberta’s market launch is being closely watched across the gambling industry, with suppliers and operators preparing for what is expected to become one of Canada’s most commercially significant online gambling jurisdictions outside Ontario.
Play’n GO is best known globally for online slot titles including Book of Dead, Reactoonz and Rise of Olympus.
