Collingwood v Richmond betting tips and prediction
Welcome to our Collingwood v Richmond betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round-16 clash at the MCG on Saturday.
The Magpies (1.12) are heavy favourites to defeat the injury-hit and struggling Tigers (6.00) with Australian betting sites, but they are hardly flying themselves and will be wary of their wounded opponent.
The Magpies-Tigers line has been set at 38.5 points in the home team’s favour, while the over/under total points mark is at 163.5, one of the lower marks we have seen this season.
Collingwood defeated Port Adelaide at the MCG by 26 points last start, with the victory snapping a two-match losing streak, including a disappointing loss to Melbourne on the King’s Birthday holiday.
The Magpies have included their evergreen former skipper Scott Pendlebury, with the veteran replacing mid-season recruit Mitch Podhajski, for what will be Ned Long’s 50th game.
The Tigers, who have an extensive injury list, have included Jack Ross and Rhyan Mansell in place of Tyler Sonsie and Liam Fawcett, as they attempt to crawl from the lower rungs of the ladder.
Collingwood v Richmond betting tips
WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Collingwood v Richmond tips:
Jack Buller 2+ goals
The big Magpie has threatened to kick a bag for his new club, but is yet to do so, with his goal-kicking letting him down against the Power, despite some big contested grabs. Buller is paying 2.02 with NextBet to kick 2+ goals, which are great odds against such a lowly team.
Sam Banks 25+ possessions
Banks has continued to improve despite the Tigers’ battles. He hit 26 possessions last game and spent more time in the midfield. We’ll back him at big 2.65 odds to repeat the dose against the Pies.
Steely Green 2+ goals
This one is obviously a roughie, but this guy has huge talent and will need to kick goals in a threadbare Tigers forward line, and is offering nice value at 5.00 to kick 2+ goals or 12.00 to kick 3+.
Possessions betting tips
Magpies ace and Brownlow fancy Nick Daicos is an obvious one to top the possessions in the game, but long stints forward look likely for the little master. His running-mate Jordan De Goey has been in outstanding form and looms large, while Scott Pendlebury is still very capable of knocking up big possession counts.
Richmond will be reliant on Tim Taranto to win the hard ball, and he has the ability to reach 25+. Youngsters like Banks, James Tresize and Sam Cummings are rough chances for 25+, but 20+ looks more likely. It’s likely someone unexpected will reach 25+ for the Tigers, pick the right one and it will be a nice windfall.
Collingwood v Richmond prediction
Collingwood should have too much experience for the young Tigers, but they will undoubtedly be buzzing, in front of what should be a big crowd at the MCG. The Magpies forward line has been the topic of much discussion, but the Tigers’ offering is even worse. The Tigers’ full rebuild is beginning to get a Titanic feel about it. Expect the class of the Daicos brothers, Pendlebury and De Goey to be too much for the Tigers of old. Our final Collingwood v Richmond prediction? Magpies by 21 points.
