Canterbury hosts a competitive seven-race metropolitan meeting on Wednesday, August 12, with the rail set two metres out and the track currently rated a Soft 6.

A few light showers are forecast during the afternoon, but no significant rainfall is expected, so conditions should remain ideal for horses that handle a surface with a little give.

The midweek program features a strong mix of promising three-year-olds, progressive types returning from spells and several gallopers with bigger spring ambitions. Richard Litt’s Inoue looks one of the standout runners on the card after an impressive first-up win over this course and distance, while Anthracite appeals as a major chance to break through second-up over the longer trip in the final event.

Punters searching for value can also make a case for unbeaten mare Cando Attitude resuming in Race 4 and Chris Waller debutante Saffron Veil, who has trialled stylishly ahead of her first race start.

Race 5 is another highlight with the return of Monte Veebee, who is back in the Robert and Luke Price stable after a successful stint in city company with Bjorn Baker. The consistent five-year-old has already been flagged as a potential Four Pillars and Provincial-Midway Championships contender if he returns in winning fashion, adding further depth to what shapes as an excellent midweek betting program.

Below is our free form analysis and racing tips for all seven races at Canterbury on Wednesday August 12, 2026.

Race 1

Captivant @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1200m)

LORAX (2) made an encouraging return when charging home for third at Randwick and the extra 100 metres looks ideal for him second-up. He has been backed heavily from around $3 into $2.20 and looms as the one to beat in the first on the card. SAVAGRAM (7) has trialled impressively leading into her debut and should take catching if she finds the front from a favourable draw. THREADS (1) is open to sharp improvement after his first-up effort and the rise in trip suits, while CANTERO (3) has shown enough in recent trials to warrant plenty of respect on debut.

Our tip: 2-7-1-3

Race 2

TAB Handicap (1200m)

SING YOUR SONG (2) made an immediate impression when finishing strongly into second on debut and has trialled well ahead of her return. WANDA’S SPARK (1) brings valuable race fitness after an excellent first-up placing and should receive every chance on the speed. SAFFRON VEIL (9) has caught the eye throughout her trial campaign for the Chris Waller stable and appeals as a genuine each-way chance on debut, while CALOOCAN BEAUTY (4) has also trialled strongly despite drawing awkwardly. We suspect you could throw a blanket over the first four when they cross the line in this one.

Our tip: 1-2-9-4

Race 3

Irresistible Pools & Spas Handicap (1900m)

CHEVAL DE BOIS (1) has put together three consecutive runner-up finishes and looks well placed to finally return to the winner’s stall despite carrying more weight. SISTER DAAE (3) continues to race honestly and should relish the rise to 1900 metres. KUMBAYA (11) has maintained his consistency since breaking through at Wyong and shapes as a genuine contender, while LUGARNO (2) is expected to improve sharply over the longer journey.

Our tip: 1-3-11-2

Race 4

The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1250m)

CANDO ATTITUDE (1) resumes after putting together four straight victories before measuring up in stronger company and looks well treated with the benefit of a claim. Cando Attitude is also great value with bookmakers pricing the Barb Joseph-trained runner at around $13. OAKFIELD NEPTUNE (2) is better suited back to this trip and can bounce back after a forgive run last time. KWIRKY SMILE (11) brings solid recent form into the race and should be charging home late, while KAKADU SUNSET (4) resumes with blinkers applied and has enough ability to feature.

Our tip: 1-2-11-4

Race 5

Chase The Dream Handicap (1250m)

MONTE VEEBEE (2) resumes after a consistent city campaign and looks capable of making an immediate impact back with the Price stable. His natural speed should ensure a perfect position throughout. CAPTURE ME (8) has been racing in excellent fashion and is the obvious danger, while UNSTOPABULL (10) will appreciate a genuine tempo and should be finishing strongly. CLANCY (4) has trialled well ahead of his return and is worth including at attractive odds.

Our tip: 2-8-10-4

Race 6

Precise Air Handicap (1100m)

INOUE (1) overcame a poor start to score impressively over this course and distance last month and a cleaner getaway should see him very hard to beat again. ZALE (3) chased him home in that same event and is capable of making life difficult if he controls the speed. MISS TRENTINO (5) resumes after two encouraging trials and must be respected fresh, while SHALAA GOLD (7) has the pace to be prominent throughout.

Our tip: 1-3-5-7

Race 7

Ranvet Handicap (1550m)

ANTHRACITE (2) produced an encouraging first-up performance and looks set to improve sharply with the extra distance second-up. BARKING MAD (3) brings excellent recent form into the race and looms as the main danger from an ideal draw. FORECASTER (5) should be able to roll forward and give a bold sight if left alone in front, while APPEARED (4) is an intriguing import making his Australian debut after catching the eye at the trials.

Our tip: 2-3-5-4
