Sydney v Dockers betting preview

Welcome to our Sydney v Fremantle betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL preliminary final at the SCG on Friday night.

The Dockers are a ($1.45) favourite to defeat the undermanned Swans ($2.55) and march into the grand final against the winner of Hawthorn and Brisbane.

The Swans stunned the AFL with their upset win over Brisbane in the qualifying final, with this coming despite the absence of the Pullman five and an early knee injury to captain Callum Mills.

Fremantle booked their preliminary final spot with a hard-fought victory over Geelong in the west, after they were shocked by the Hawks in week one of the finals, with the likes of Luke Jackson and Shai Bolton lifting their output considerably.

Neds Australia has set the Swans v Dockers line at 11.5 points, while the over/under total points mark is at 188.5, which looms as an attractive proposition for punters in such a high-stakes clash.

Sydney will have to dig even deeper into their list after the Mills injury and the news that veteran Harry Cunningham would miss the clash with a calf injury. The Swans have also confirmed Joel Amartey, who is eyeing a trade to Carlton, would not play.

The Swans will be boosted by the inclusion of Justin McInerney after a serious hamstring injury kept him sidelined since round 13, while they may consider Lewis Melican to counter the Dockers’ tall forward set-up.

Fremantle is unlikely to make wholesale changes to the team that defeated Geelong, with Brennan Cox ruled out, while Brandon Walker has returned to full training and could be considered.

Under 188.5 total match points

The Swans are going to have to grind this clash out if they want to defeat the Dockers. Stop their run, slow their ball movement and hope to win a low-scoring slog. We haven’t seen this much from a Dean Cox-coached Swans, with their usual style run and gun. But with Mills joining Heeney and Blakey on the sidelines, they are missing a swag of their game-breakers. Take the unders at 1.90 with Australian betting sites

Angus Sheldrick 20 possessions

The young Swan has enjoyed a strong season and will need to play a big role in the midfield, with Mills now out as well. Sheldrick has been averaging around 17 possessions a game in the last month, with a small boost to 20+ possessions paying 1.90, which looms as a strong option.

Isaiah Dudley 2+ goals

Dudley is paying 2.65 to kick two majors. He’s gonna get plenty of chances with the competitive Dockers forward line bringing everything to ground.

Sydney v Fremantle prediction

We suspect the Swans might be cannon-fodder in this clash, with the players they have out. While the young outfit will have a crack, the Dockers’ hardened midfield, outstanding forwards and experienced backline should see them account for the Swans. We’re actually shocked you can still get around 1.60 on the Dockers winning – jump on this with confidence. We haven’t tipped Luke Jackson for a big one, but keep him safe, with our 20+ and two goals hitting last week, which netted us a nice windfall. Our final Sydney v Dockers prediction? Dockers to win by 30 points.
