Yggdrasil expands Fortuna deal into Czech Republic
Malta-based slots developer Yggdrasil has expanded its partnership with Fortuna Entertainment Group, launching its casino games with the operator in the regulated Czech Republic market.
The agreement follows previous launches between Yggdrasil and Fortuna in Romania and Slovakia and further expands the iGaming developer’s footprint across Central and Eastern Europe.
Czech players will initially gain access to a selection of established Yggdrasil slots, including Golden Fishtank, Vikings Go Berzerk and Cazino Zeppelin.
The Czech Republic has operated a regulated online gambling market under its current framework since January 2017, when the country’s Gambling Act came into force.
The legislation opened the Czech gambling market to qualifying online casinos based in the European Union and European Economic Area and established a licensing framework covering online casino games, sports betting and other forms of internet gambling.
Online casino operators must meet local requirements including offering their websites in Czech, verifying players and displaying licensing and responsible gambling information.
Fortuna is one of the region’s largest betting and gaming groups and has operated in Central and Eastern Europe for more than 35 years.
The company was founded in Czechoslovakia in 1990 and has subsequently expanded into several European markets, offering sports betting and online casino products.
The latest integration continues Yggdrasil’s own push into regulated Central and Eastern European markets, following launches in Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia earlier this year.
Paulina Ostrzycka, Regional Manager for the Balkans at Yggdrasil, said the opportunity to expand its relationship in new markets with Fortuna Entertainment Group was too good to pass up.

Vojtěch Kopecký, Head of Gaming at Fortuna, said Yggdrasil’s games had already performed well with customers in the group’s other markets.
“Yggdrasil’s games have already proved popular with our players in Romania and Slovakia, so we’re pleased to extend the offering to Czech customer,” he said.
“This launch gives our Czech players access to the same premium content, bringing greater variety to our casino portfolio.”
Yggdrasil is headquartered in Malta and holds a B2B gaming licence from the Malta Gaming Authority. The developer is best known for its online slots portfolio and distributes games across numerous regulated gambling markets.
