Aussies firm in ICC World Cup betting as England drifts
AUSTRALIA has firmed in betting to win the 2019 ICC World Cup, after their impressive lead-up form and opening victory over Afghanistan on Saturday.
Pre-tournament the Aussies were as long as $5 with some online betting sites, however, most have trimmed the Aussies into as short as $3.70.
Hot favourite England has drifted slightly in betting, now priced at $2.50 with WilliamHIll.com, despite a convincing victory over South Africa.
But the Proteas’ World Cup hopes are dashed, according to the bookies, who have installed them at $13, after being as short as $7 with some betting sites before the tournament.
India has gone from a pre-tournament price of $3.50 out to $4.50 following mediocre lead-up form, but they are not due to open their account until Wednesday when they clash with South Africa.
New Zealand is holding firm at $9 in betting and look to be first of the genuine smokies who could push a long way in this tournament.
The West Indies are priced at $11 following their thrashing of Pakistan and have the firepower to trouble most teams.
Pakistan ($34), Bangladesh ($81), Afghanistan ($151) and Sri Lanka ($151) are not receiving much love from punters.
