Brownlow Medal odds: Daicos expected to romp it in
Collingwood’s young champion Nick Daicos is now a 1.02 favourite to win the Brownlow Medal following another best on ground display on Sunday.
Daicos amassed 39 possessions and a goal in the Magpies 19-point victory over West Coast, which also consolidated their position in the wildcard playoff positions.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae said hard work was the biggest factor in the continued dominance of Daicos, while also paying tribute to his older brother Josh.
“He’s pretty important isn’t he, and Josh, I thought Josh was enormous today, he had 900m gained,” he said.
“We reset ourselves after the bye and wanted to be really aggressive the way we went about things and players have bought into that.
“Just in terms of Nick, he’s that diligent and professional in his game and his desire to win – we want to follow that.
“His work-rate is enormous… and his game has gone to another level.”
Remarkably the second favourite for the Brownlow Medal is Western Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli at 23.00, indicating betting sites believe the best and fairest award is settled with two rounds to go.
Geelong ace Bailey Smith (26.00), Jai Newcombe (51.00), Will Ashcroft (67.00) and Patrick Cripps (67.00) round out the top five in Brownlow betting.
West Coast coach Andrew McQualter said Daicos was clearly the best player in the competition but said Brady Hough, who tagged him for the bulk of the game, had done a reasonable job.
“He’s extraordinary, in my opinion right now, he’s the best player in the competition by a long stretch, i don’t think there is anyone close to him at the moment,” he said.
“He was the best player in the game today, he was amazing, but I actually thought Houghy did a pretty good on him.”
The 2026 Brownlow Medal is scheduled for Monday, September 21, just days before the grand final.
