Community Shield: Arsenal v Liverpool betting preview, odds and winner prediction

Arsenal v Liverpool Community Shield 2020

Welcome to our betting preview of the 2020 English Community Shield between FA Cup winners Arsenal and Premier League champions Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

The Community Shield (formerly Charity Shield) is of course the traditional curtain-raiser to the English soccer season, with the proceeds from this match going to various charities.

Of course, it is different this season in that it will be played in a mostly empty stadium and the 2019-2020 season finished less than a month ago.

The Community Shield is a competitive cup contest recognised by UEFA and the FA but does not carry the same weight as the rest of the silverware on offer.

Arsenal and Liverpool have a long history of success in this competition, with both teams winning the shield 15 times, behind only Manchester United (21 wins). The Gunners have won it three times in the past six years, while Liverpool have not won it since 2006.

Arsenal to win match/over 2.5 goals scored

We like the look of Arsenal to cause an upset even though Liverpool are hot favourites. To be successful with this bet Arsenal must win in 90 minutes with more than 2.5 goals scored in total between the teams. If you are feeling less adventurous make it 1.5-plus goals for a smaller payout.

Arsenal to score first and win match $5.50

Check out this option at Unibet if you are on the Arsenal bandwagon. The last time these two teams met, the Gunners inflicted a rare defeat on Liverpool in the EPL. The Gunners are also Wembley one-off specialists.

Arsenal v Liverpool prediction

Liverpool are deserved favourites for this match after romping through the 2019-2020 EPL seasons to land their long-awaited title after 30 years. But it should not be forgotten that this match has become more like an exhibition match in recent years, and it will be even more so this time with no fans allowed. Expect the intensity to be low. We have elected to go with the value and back Arsenal, given it’s hard to know what to expect from both teams. It’s a no-brainer really. We would not risk a substantial pars of our bankroll on Liverpool at odds-on not knowing how they will approach the match with such a short off-season break. So the value lies with Mikel Arteta’s team, who have a new hard edge since he took the reins. Our Arsenal v Liverpool prediction: Gunners to win 3-1 over Liverpool.
