England v Australia tips, best bets for 3rd T20 International

England vs Australia predictions, betting and odds update.

Welcome to our preview of the 3rd England v Australia Twenty20 International at Southampton on Tuesday (Wednesday 3am AEST), the third match of the Australians’ six-match limited overs tour.

England sealed victory in the three-match T20 International series with a six-wicket win in the second match on Sunday, and they also claimed the No.1 ranking from the Australians in the ICC T20 standings.

But Australia can reclaim the No.1 spot if they win the third match, a day-night T20 on the same pitch on which the first two matches were played.

The Australians were soundly outplayed in the second match after really blowing a golden opportunity in the first match.

Opener Jos Buttler, the man of the match on Sunday, is not playing in the third match, while England captain Eoin Morgan is also unlikely to feature after dislocating his finger in the second match.

While that hands the advantage to the tourists, it also hands an opportunity to a young rising star such as Tom Banton to open the innings. If Banton gets a start, look out. As followers of the Big Bash League will know, he can really score at a rate of knots.

Australia could tinker with their batting line-up, with the move to send in wicketkeeper Alex Carey at No.3 backfiring on Sunday. He has looked right out of touch in both matches so far, although it’s admittedly a small sample size.

The pitch is expected to offer some assistance to the spinners after it was used in the first two matches.

England v Australia tips – 3rd T20

Here are our best bets for the Third T20 between England and Australia at the Rose Bowl:

Steve Smith top-score for Australia at $5

We tipped Smith to top-scorer for Australia in the second match and we have stuck solid this time. He has a marvellous record in England and looked good in both innings so far before a soft dismissal in the first match and then he ran himself out in the second. He should get an opportunity for some time in the middle this time, with David Warner looking flaky at the top of the order.

Adil Rashid top wicket-taker for England

The leg-spinner should get conditions to suit with a wearing pitch, and Rashid is difficult to play at the best of times in the short format where batsmen are forced to go on the attack. He is ranked in the top few bowlers in T20 International cricket for good reason.

England v Australia prediction 8/9/2020

England have dominated Australia in limited-overs cricket in recent times and the Australians will be desperate to get on the board with a win before the switch to the 50-over format in which England are the reigning world champions. The loss of Buttler and potentially Morgan will hurt the England top-order but the incoming players will be fighting for a place in the team so lack nothing in motivation. We think the law of averages points to an Australian win but we say that without great confident and we will stick to the player props market. Our final England v Australia prediction? Australia to win at $1.85.
