England v West Indies tips & prediction; 2nd Test Betting Preview

South Africa v England T20, November 29

WELCOME To our England v West Indies betting tips and predictions for the second Test being played at Old Trafford, England, From Thursday.

After successfully tipping 7.80 winner the West Indies to defeat England in the series opener at the Rose Bowl, which finished on Sunday night, our bank is fully loaded and we can’t wait for the 2nd Test.

The Windies’ pace attack, led by Shannon Gabriel, proved to be too strong for the Joe Root-less England batting line-up after the visiting team, led by Jermaine Blackwood with 95, successfully chased down 200 in the final innings on a wearing pitch.

Now England must regroup for the two Tests at Old Trafford in Manchester, with skipper Root set to rejoin the squad and take the reins off stand-in captain Ben Stokes.

England will make at least two changes with Joe Denly in the gun for Root’s return and Stuart Broad certain to come into the line-up after being excluded from the first Test in favour of the express pace of Mark Wood. Whether veteran Jimmy Anderson backs up off a short break remains to be seen, with England selectors having plenty to ponder.

The Windies will closely monitor their fast-bowling quartet, with Gabriel having recently returned from injury, meaning it would be a big call to play him again after two days rest. Captain Jason Holder is certain to play, while the battle-hardened Kemar Roach would be hard to leave out despite going wicket-less in the 1st Test. While Gabriel’s man-of-the-match performance makes it very hard to rest him, and Joseph was integral to their 1st Test win, they will lose nothing by including the exciting Chemar Holder.

Spinner Rahkeem Cornwall was left out of the first Test and looms as a possible inclusion, although selectors will be loath to mess with their winning formula, with the towering Antigua product more likely to come in for the final Test, after the Old Trafford pitch has worn. Opening batsman John Campbell, who retired hurt only to return to be at the crease for the winning runs, is also in some doubt after Jofra Archer hit his toe with a yorker.

The Windies might lead the series 1-0 but it has not stopped England being installed 1.37 favourites to win this clash, with the visiting team priced at 4.65, much shorter than their opening Test odds.

One thing to consider is the 6.00 on offer for a drawn series. It’s a long way back from 1-0 down in the series, and then there is England’s fickle weather as a further problem. Remarkably England are 1.80 favourites to win the series, while the Windies are priced at 2.75.

England v West Indies betting tips

The World Gambling List’s cricket expert has examined the England v West Indies betting for the second Test from Old Trafford and found some tips we like.

Ben Stokes to win man of the match

We think Stokes will be hurting after leading England to a loss in the opening Test, and he will enjoy handing the reins back to regular skipper Root. Stokes was probably outshone by his all-rounder rival Jason Holder in the opening Test, and we expect the fiery Cockermouth Cricket Club product to respond. Stokes is paying 10.00 to win man of the match, great value given he bats at no.5 and is a first-change bowler, with a knack for taking important wickets.

Stuart Broad to take most first-innings wickets for England

Stuart Broad is on record as being very disappointed about being left out of the England team for the first Test, in favour of playing Archer and Wood in the same line-up. Nothing is surer than Broad returning to the line-up for the second Test at Manchester, a ground he has a great record at with the new ball. Broad is paying 4.00 to take the most wickets in West Indies’ first bat.

Shai Hope to top score in West Indies first innings

Hope failed in both knocks in the opening Test and we think, alongside opener Kraigg Brathwaite, that he is the most likely to construct a long innings in England. Keep an eye on conditions but if the pitch is good for batting Hope could anchor the Windies’ innings and the 5.00 on offer to top score in their opening innings is good value.

England v West Indies prediction 16/7/2020

England look a much better team with skipper Joe Root back in the middle-order and we predict that they will level the series 1-1 and set up a blockbuster final Test. The home team will be smarting after losing the unlosable Test (remember the Windies were paying 7.80 to win!) in familiar conditions and they won’t let the Windies ambush them again. Having said this we think the 1.37 on offer in the betting just too short for a team with such a frail batting line-up. While we will be steering clear of betting on the winner of this one it should be a cracking contest. Our final England v West Indies prediction? England by 150 runs.
