Canada v Australia

Tip-off time: 15:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Dongguan Basketball Center
H2H Odds: Canada $3.25, Australia $1.35
Canada v Australia predictions: We think the bookmakers may have gotten carried away with Australia’s shock victory against the USA in Melbourne recently. Sure, it was Team USA’s first loss since 2006 but it was only a warm-up game and the Boomers lost the earlier match as well as splitting a two-match series with Canada and losing to Germany in the lead-up to this tournament. They have their eyes on a first international medal but look little value at $1.35 against a Canada side who beat them in a warm-up and should regain NBA veteran Cory Joseph. Andrew Bogut also suffered an ankle injury against Germany but should play. We like Canada at the +6.5 point line at $1.90.

New Zealand v Brazil

Tip-off time: 16:00 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Gymnasium of Youth Olympic Games Sport Park, Nanjing
H2H Odds: New Zealand $4.75, Brazil $1.20
New Zealand v Brazil predictions: The Brazilians are 26 places higher in the FIBA rankings than the Tall Blacks and have a much greater pedigree on the big stage. The Kiwis have Tai and Corey Webster running the show but would need a major upset here. We think the Brazilians can win by 1-10 at around the $2.70 mark.

Turkey v Japan

Tip-off time: 16:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Shanghai Oriental Sports Center
H2H Odds: Turkey $1.12, Japan $6.40
Turkey v Japan predictions: Turkey are rated $150 chances to lift the World Cup trophy but they still have a fair bit on the Japanese, who are closer to $1001. The Turks can call on the likes of NBA players Cedi Osman, Ersan Ilyasova and Furkan Korkmaz and they reached the quarter-finals of the previous World Cup in 2014. Try Turkey at 11 points plus at $1.50. A good anchor leg for a parlay bet.

Dominican Republic v Jordan

Tip-off time: 16:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Shenzhen Bay Sports Center
H2H Odds: Dominican Republic $1.15 v Jordan $5.50
Dominican Republic v Jordan predictions: Argentine Nestor Che Garcia is a vastly experienced coach and won’t let his Dominican team slip up here in a match they must win if the want any chance of advancing from a group that also includes Germany and France. Jordan will hang tough so the under 156.5 points option at $1.90 looks a decent play.

Senegal v Lithuania

Tip-off time: 19:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Dongguan Basketball Center
H2H Odds: Senegal $26, Lithuania $1
Senegal v Lithuania predictions: Senegal bounced through Africa qualifying winning 10 of their 12 matches but coming against Lithuania takes it to whole new level. NBA players Jonas Valanciunas (Memphis) and Domantas Sabonis (Indiana’s) will lead the way for the latter in what should be a free-wheeling contest. Take the over 148.5 points at $1.90.

Greece v Montenegro

Tip-off time: 20:00 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Gymnasium of Youth Olympic Games Sport Park, Nanjing
H2H Odds: Greece $1.11, Montenegro $7
Greece v Montenegro predictions: The first clash between these two teams at World Cup and Greece have far the better credentials. Montenegro’s Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic will be the go-to man, but take a look at the Greek roster and you will see the size of the task they face. Greece of course are led by NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and he gives them hope they can win the whole thing. Greece easily in this one, so if you don’t mind short odds dive in.

Czech Republic v USA

Tip-off time: 20:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Shanghai Oriental Sports Center
H2H Odds: Czech Republic $15, USA $1.03
Czech Republic v USA predictions: Team USA have to iron out a few kinks after their surprise loss to Australia but now that the real thing is here they should step things up a little. The Czechs are a handy outfit but we don’t see this match as much of a betting proposition. Maybe just tune in to see how the Americans are gelling.

France v Germany

Tip-off time: 20:30 local time (GMT+8)
Venue: Shenzhen Bay Sports Center
H2H Odds: France $1.27, Germany $3.80
France v Germany predictions: These two teams have plenty of history in many sports, most prominently football. Here France are genuine gold medal hopes with a squad packed with NBA talent. Germany are improvers and these are the two teams most likely to advance from Group G. We like the over 151.5 line at around $1.90 with some of our preferred international bookies.
