Finland grants six more gambling licenses ahead of market opening
Finland’s National Police Board has granted 18 gambling licences under the country’s new regulatory framework, with another 63 applications awaiting decisions ahead of the market opening on July 1, 2027.
The regulator published its updated list of approved operators on October 29, confirming six additional licences since October 26.
The newly approved companies include Roi Roger Limited, UnionJack Limited, Benelongs Ltd, Stare Straight Ltd, Pot Luck Club Ltd and Amber Entertainment Finland Ltd.
Other approved applicants include Skill On Net Ltd, Hippos ATG Oy, SuomiVeto Oy and several companies associated with established international gambling groups.
The licences will generally remain valid until June 30, 2032, allowing operators to offer regulated online casino games and sports betting when Finland ends its existing monopoly arrangements for those products.
The country’s National Police Board has received 81 applications since the licensing process opened in March, with processing times currently estimated at six to eight months, longer than the three-to-six-month period initially anticipated.
Finland’s new gambling legislation will introduce competition for online casinos and sports betting while maintaining exclusive arrangements for certain lottery products.
The National Police Board will oversee licensing until June 30, 2027, before responsibility transfers to the Finnish Supervisory Agency.
