Flutter Entertainment has confirmed plans to discontinue Betfair’s betting exchange, sportsbook and online casino operations in Italy after regulatory changes made the exchange business commercially unviable.

The decision will also end Betfair’s Italian affiliate programme on October 31, with marketing partners instructed to remove promotional material targeting Italian customers by October 29.

Flutter said recent regulatory changes had made the Betfair Exchange product “no longer commercially sustainable” and they had consequently decided to withdraw its other Betfair gambling products from the market.

Italy introduced a revised online gambling licensing framework in 2025, requiring separate concessions for individual brands, with each carrying a €7 million licensing fee, which can remain valid for up to nine years.

Flutter has not identified which specific regulatory changes prompted its decision to withdraw Betfair, but the company did confirm that its other Italian gambling brands, including Sisal, Snai and PokerStars, would remain operational.

Flutter said Betfair represented a relatively small proportion of its Italian revenue and that the withdrawal would not affect employees or its remaining businesses.

The closure date for Betfair’s consumer-facing sportsbook, online casino and exchange services has not been confirmed.

Italian affiliate partners will receive their final commission payments in November for qualifying activity during October.
