Geelong v North Melbourne betting tips and prediction
Welcome to our Geelong v North Melbourne betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 8 clash at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
The Cats are 1.22 favourites with Aussie betting sites to defeat the Roos (4.25), who will genuinely fancy their chances of causing an upset in Geelong.
The Cats-Roos line has been set at a very tempting 27.5 points, while the over/under total points is at 190.5.
The Cats are coming off a five-goal loss to Port Adelaide in Adelaide, with Chris Scott’s team underwhelming and key players like Patrick Dangerfield out of sorts.
Despite this the Cats are well-placed to charge into the second-half of the year, having notched up four wins from seven matches.
They have been boosted by the inclusion of key defenders Sam De Koning and Jake Kolodjashnij, but have lost veteran utility Mark Blicavs and rested Jack Bowes.
The Roos fought bravely but ultimately feel seven points short against GWS in Canberra last start.
They sit in seventh spot on the same amount of wins as the Cats, but boast a better percentage, and loom as a live chance in this game, despite the bookies pricing them strong outsiders.
The Roos have been boosted by the inclusion of Charlie Comben, with consistent defender Toby Pink a surprise omission. The Roos have also indicated young mid George Wardlaw may be a late omission, with the same illness housemate Comben was forced out with last week.
Geelong v North Melbourne betting tips
Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Geelong v North Melbourne tips:
Nick Larkey 3+ goals
Mitch Georgiades tortured the Cats last week and could have had a better day than his 4.6 from 10 shots. Roos forward Larkey will be eying a similar haul here, but will have De Koning to contend with, but he is smart enough to beat most defenders. Larkey is short at 2.40 to kick 3+ goals, but is a consistent presence. Cats ace Jeremy Cameron was quiet last week, but still kicked three goals, and can be included again here, but is at around 1.50 for 3+, which is just too short.
Bailey Smith 30+ possessions
We’re not sure how we feel about Smith, he wins a mountain of pill, tries his guts out and looks good doing it. But geez his disposal can be bad. Despite this Smth , who is paying 7.00 to win the Brownlow Medal, is very consistent with his output and regularly racks up 30 possessions. We like him here against a team that will back their own midfield in. He’s at 1.65 to gather 30+.
Roos +27.5 points
North Melbourne will try their guts out all day under Alastair Clarkson, and while they may ultimately fall short here, they should get within 27.5 points. The Roos +27.5 is paying 1.90 wth Neds Australia and is our bet of the day in this contest, given we rate the teams on a similar level.
Geelong v North Melbourne prediction
We were seriously underwhelmed with the Cats efforts in South Australia last week, and they desperately need to lift back at home. The fact they have stiffened their defence with two key ins, means we’re willing to give them another shot here, with very little confidence. Our final Geelong v North Melbourne prediction? Cats by four points.
