India vs Australia betting preview

MATCH INFO
India v Australia
Venue: The Oval, London, Sunday, June 9, 10.30am (British time)
Head to head odds: India $1.73; Australia $2.10
Last time they met: Australia 9-272 (50 overs) d India 237 (50 overs) in Delhi, March 13, 2019.

Australia and India will go toe-to-toe, in what is promising to be a modern-day ICC World Cup classic, at The Oval on Sunday.

The Aussies will be in a buoyant mood after a frightening Mitchell Starc rescued them from a tough spot against the resurgent West Indies, while India did just enough to keep struggling South Africa at bay in their tournament opener.

India has been installed a $1.73 favourite for the clash, while the Aussies are priced at $2.10.

Despite punters having limited exposure to India so far this tournament, they liked what they saw in the win over the Proteas, with bookies slicing the odds of an India tournament victory from around the $4.50 mark into $3.75 and second favourite.

The Aussies’ recent form against India is strong having defeated them in a five-match series earlier this year in India, but that was largely on the back of brilliant form from Usman Khawaja — the form that has abandoned him in England and Wales.

Despite this the positive return of former captain Steve Smith and David Warner from suspension has made the Aussies a serious contender to win the title.

This India v Australia betting preview will run you through betting options for match 14 of 48 of the ICC World Cup 2019.

HEAD TO HEAD BETTING:
India $1.73, Australia $2.10
Prediction: Australia came from 2-0 down to beat India 3-2 in the ODI series in India. They are even stronger now with Smith and Warner back and Starc seemingly back to peak form. While this is just a match to savour and maybe not bet on the head to head market, we favour the Australians at $2.10 with
William Hill.

Top batter prediction: Australia were rescued from potential disaster against the West Indies by a blazing knock from Nathan Coulter-Nile, but first it was Steve Smith who steadied the ship with 73. He simply looked in a different class to his fellow batsmen so we will back him to have a big one at $4.33. For India Virat Kohli seldom make two sub-50 scores in a row so he is our man at $3, though you may well find enhanced odds at William Hill.

Top bowler tip: We jumped on Mitchell Starc to be the leading wicket-taker against the Windies and he delivered in spades. He’s found a great rhythm and is bowling quickly and accurately with a touch of swing. No reason not to jump on him again at $3.50. When we look at the Indian team we can’t help but plump for Jasprit Bumrah. He just a wonderful bowler. Class is permanent.

Over 41.5 with William Hill at $1.83. As we said he rarely fails twice in a row and seems to fare well against Australia regularly.

India v Australia prediction

While we are predicting Australia to defeat India in an upset on Sunday, we acknowledge that both teams have the firepower to win this match and the entire tournament. We think Sunday’s match will come down to the pace bowlers, with Australia’s notable struggles against Jaspar Bumrah set to be highlighted again. On the other hand the Indians may struggle against the pace barrage set to be thrown by Mitchell Starc (fresh off five wickets) and Patrick Cummins.
