Netball World Cup 2019 odds, betting analysis and best bets

Netball World Cup odds and betting analysis

The Netball World Cup is beginning on Friday in Liverpool, England, and most online betting sites have released extensive odds for the four-yearly event.

The powerful Australian team has been installed a 1.91 favourite to win the tournament, ahead of host nation England (2.75).

Australia are going through a rebuilding phase and have the youngest squad out of the main competitors, but working in their favour is all 12 play in the Super Netball Competition, regarded as the best in the world.

The Aussies will need skipper Caitlin Bassett to lift after a sub-par Super Netball competition, while Liz Watson will need to be at her best through the mid-court.

England finally broke through for a maiden victory on the big stage last year, when they defeated Jamaica by one goal in the final of the Commonwealth Games in Australia. They also defeated the Aussies narrowly in the semi-final.

Jamaica are also highly fancied in betting at 5.00, with intercept queen Shamera Sterling and shooter Jhaniele Fowler looming as keys to their team.

New Zealand, four time winners of the Netball World Cup, have been priced at 9.00 to win the tournament and will need a major turnaround in form if they are to win the event. But they are likely to qualify for a semi-final given their soft draw and the fact the main threat in the group is Australia and two will qualify.

South Africa are paying 21.00 to win the tournament, but they will need to beat one of England or Jamaica to advance through their group stage. They will be hoping Karla Pretorius can continue her brilliant form, while their back court combination is well tuned given they play together at the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Malawi, who have a recent victory against England, will be without their strike weapon Mwai Kumwenda, who suffered an ACL injury. The 101.00 quote from the bookies looks about right.

Best bets: Netball World Cup

While we will provide further commentary throughout the Netball World Cup, here are our best bets heading into the tournament.

Winner tip: England have the home court advantage (although we’re not sure that has helped the England cricket team at the ICC World Cup) and we think they are the team to beat, despite sitting behind Australia in the betting. Their extra experience served them well at the Commonwealth Games in two narrow wins over Australia and Jamaica and we think they can do it again here. They are paying 2.75 to win the tournament with William Hill and 1.36 to make the final.

To make the final tip: England vs Australia — we’ve seen this a few times over the years in various sports and they look the two teams best placed to go deep in the tournament. Jamaica definitely have claims. An England vs Australia final is paying 2.50 with WilliamHill.com.
