New Zealand v India 5th T20 International tips, odds update

New Zealand v West Indies betting tips, prediction and odds; 1st T20 preview

This is WGL’s odds update and tips for the fifth NZ v India T20 International at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, on Sunday, February 2.

India are again hot favourites to win the fifth match and make it a 5-0 clean sweep of the Twenty20 series but we are stumped as to how we arrived at 4-0 after Friday’s chaotic.

Just when we thought things could not get crazier after Wednesday’s super over win to India, in which Rohit Sharma hit sixes off the final two balls to win the match, along came the match in Wellington.

Remarkably the New Zealanders again could not overhaul India’s total, despite needing only seven runs off the final over. They lost FOUR wickets in the final over from Shardul Thakur and it was back to another super over. The Kiwis scrambled to 13 runs off their over but then surprisingly went back to Tim Southee, who had been clubbed for the winning runs by Rohit a couple of days earlier. A couple of lusty blows later and the Indians had done it again!

So to Bay Oval and the Kiwis will surely be glad when this series is all over, with one positive coming from match four in that spinner Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi tightened then screws on the Indian batsman. That hopefully bodes well for the final match of this series and then the ODI series which starts on Wednesday in Hamilton.

NZ have not played a T20 International at Bay Oval for a couple of years but it is a ground at which spinners usually do well.

NZ v Ind 5th T20 betting tips

Here are the WGL’s betting tips for the NZ-India T20 on Sunday, February 2. For more information about betting on international cricket fixtures follow the link.

Colin Munro top run scorer for NZ at $5

The South Africa-born left-hander has a tremendous record at this ground, with two of this three T20 International centuries coming here. He batted well on Friday and we will also have a small wager on him to be man of the match. Surely the Kiwis have to get over the line sooner or later.

Yuzvendra Chahal leading wicket-taker for India at $4.50

Shop around for this one as you might find better odds but as mentioned above wrist spinners have done well at this ground. Chahal has had a decent series without dominating but with conditions to suit he is a dangerous prospect.

Century in match at $8

This is a ground where players can go big. Of course it will have to be one of the openers or first drops but both teams have quality at the top of their orders. Players such as Sharma, Rahul, Kohli, Guptill, Williamson and Munro are capable of making fast starts and then going on with the job.

New Zealand v India predictions – 5th T20, Feb 2, 2020

We suspect the Kiwis might get over the line here but cannot bring ourselves to top them. They have been remarkable in their inability to close out matches in this series and we can only hope they can turn it around here and then into the ODI series. Good punting to all.
