NRL round 11: Raiders v Storm betting tips

Welcome to our Penrith v Canberra NRL betting preview and free tips article for their clash at Panthers Stadium, Sydney, on Saturday, August 8.

The Panthers have taken all before them this season, with 10 wins from 12 matches to be sitting atop the NRL table.

Canberra are also fighting the good fight to be fifth with eight wins from 12 matches despite a hefty injury toll.

The Raiders have won the past couple of matches between these two teams in great style. They met twice in the 2019 season and Canberra won the first clash 30-12 and the second 30-18.

This is the clear match of the day on NRL Super Saturday, with the earlier matches Melbourne Storm v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Sunshine Coast Stadium at 3pm, and Newcastle Knights v Wests Tigers at McDonald Jones Stadium at 5.30pm.

The Raiders have lost exciting rookie Semi Valemei (knee) for a month, but should regain fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad after his gruesome dislocated finger.

Penrith have had a pretty good run with injury though they are still missing ace fullback Dyland Edwards for at least another week with a hamstring strain.

Winger Charlie Staines (hamstring) has joined him on the sidelines after an incredible start to his first-grade career in which he has scored six tries in his first two matches. The Panthers have named Malakai Watene-Zelezniak to take his place.

Panthers v Raiders free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Penrith-Canberra clash.

Panthers -5.5 points/match total under 35.5

Penrith and Canberra are two of the best defensive teams in the competition this season. The difference here could well be that the Panthers attack has been far more potent. We expect tries to be hard to come by but with Nathan Cleary pulling the strings, the Panthers have been able to unlock the best of defences this season,

Stephen Crichton to score a try

The Panthers centre has been a try-scoring machine this season with 11 from 12 games, and he is been far and away the man most likely for the mountain men. No reason he won’t find his way over again and the $2.35 to score a try at any time with Unibet seems like fair value.

Penrith Panthers v Canberra Raiders prediction

The Raiders have held the edge in this match-up of late, but this is a new breed of Panthers altogether. They have a cohesive and powerful forward back and outside backs ready at all times to torch the opposition from all over the park. This should be a classic but eventually the Panthers’ excellent ball control and discipline will prove too much on their home turf. Our final Penrith-Canberra prediction? Panthers by 10 points.
