NRL Saturday: Roosters v Sea Eagles betting tips, prediction & odds, round 1, 2021

NRL finals: Panthers v Roosters 2020

Welcome to our Sydney Roosters v Manly Warringah Sea Eagles match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, March 13.

Bookmakers have made the Sydney Roosters hot favourites for their season opener against old foes Manly. This is clearly the most intriguing match of the first Super Saturday for the 2021 NRL season and it falls into the middle slot of the three games.

The earlier game is New Zealand Warriors v Gold Coast Titans at 3pm from Central Coast Stadium. The Penrith Panthers-North Queensland match at Panthers Stadium rounds out the day from 7.35pm.

The Sydney Roosters fizzled in the finals in 2020 with two narrow losses to Penrith and Canberra as they chased a third consecutive NRL title and they will be primed to bounce back this season. Their record against the Sea Eagles does not make for great reading with only four wins from their past 10 clashes, and in their only meeting in 2020, the Sea Eagles won 9-8 in a slog

Manly had a terrible time of it last season with injuries and things have not started well this season with star attacking weapon Tom Trbojevic sidelined again with a hamstring injury. He is not expected back in the side until at least round four.

Roosters v Sea Eagles team news for round 1

The Roosters have named five-eighth Luke Keary to take his place even though Keary missed the Roosters’ trial match with a hamstring niggle. Veteran prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been named on the bench, while captain Boyd Cordner has only just started training again after all his concussion issues of last season. The Roosters have named a young but ferocious pack, but they have a hugely experienced back line led by the Morris brothers and the likes of start fullback James Tedesco and winger Daniel Tupou.

Manly have selected Dylan Walker to replace Trbejovic in the No.1 jumper. They will rely on a pair of veteran halves in Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran to steer an inexperienced team around the park.

Roosters v Sea Eagles free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Roosters-Sea Eagles betting tips for Saturday’s game.

Jack Gosiewski anytime try-scorer

The tough former Souths second-rower has developed a knack for finding four-pointers, with six from just 13 games last season. He has won a starting spot and might be ready to emerge as more than just a journeyman for the Sea Eagles. We will back him at good odds to be in the right place at the right time .

Sydney Roosters -8.5 points/match total over 42.5 points

This option is at $3.25 with emerging Aussie bookmaker TopSport. The Roosters have been a good team for many years and there is no reason to think they will drop off this season. Their record in opening-round matches is not great in recent years, but they have a slightly younger and more motivated team for this one. The classy back line should be able to step on the gas in the second half.

Sydney Roosters v Manly Sea Eagles prediction 13-3-2021

It’s pretty comforting for a team to be able to start with a warrior like Jared Waerea-Hargreaves on the pine. The Roosters will have a point to prove this season after bowing out of last season’s finals in straight sets. We expect the to set a high standard right from the start this season. Manly have troubled them in the past and should be able to unlock teams with such a crafty pair of halves but in the end, the Roosters have too much back-line fire-power. Our Roosters v Sea Eagles prediction: Roosters to win comfortable.
