MATCH INFO
Pakistan v South Africa
Venue: Lord’s, London, Sunday, June 23, 10.30am (British time)
Head to head odds: Pakistan $2.20; South Africa $1.67
Last time they met: South Africa 3-241 (40 overs) d Pakistan 8-240 (50 overs) in Cape Town, January 30, 2019.

The clash is between arguably the two most disappointing teams in the 2019 cricket World Cup.
Pakistan and South Africa came to England with high hopes but they have manage just a single win each to date and their campaigns are as good as done.
Pakistan produced an epic display to beat the home nation, but in all other matches have been soundly beaten.
So who triumphs in this clash at Lord’s? Hard to say. But it will be of great interest as it is the first match at the London ground this tournament and, of course, the final will be played there on July 14.
Of the two teams possibly South Africa have been more disappointing so we may lean towards Pakistan at the better odds with leading cricket bookie William Hill.

HEAD TO HEAD BETTING:
Pakistan $2.20, South Africa $1.67
Prediction: As mentioned this is a tough one to call. Both teams will want to end the tournament on a high and the pressure is off so we should see some free-flowing scoring. A small bet on Pakistan for us.

Top batter prediction: Pakistan’s batting has been a real problem for them with Babar Azam leading their runs tally on 163, averaging a tick over 40. We can’t commit to backing any of them as the top order has just been too inconsistent. With South Africa, we struck paydirt tipping Rassie van der Dussen to top-score against New Zealand at $6. The Proteas have also not had a dominant batsman, so we will stick with the young gun to get the job done again.

TOP WICKET-TAKER BETTING:

Pakistan:

Top wicket-takers from past five ODIs:

v West Indies: Match abandoned
v India: Kagiso Rabada 2-39
v Bangladesh: Imran Tahir 2-57, Chris Morris 2-73, Andile Phehlukwayo 2-52

Top bowler tip: Left-armer Mohammad Amir has been immense for the Pakistan in this tournament despite his team’s struggles. He has taken 13 wickets at just over 13! And we have been lucky enough to have jumped on him early in the piece. He did the business again for us against India with three wickets. Amir though has had very little support from his fellow bowlers, so he is a clear pick again. For South Africa we will go again on paceman Kagiso Rabada in the hope the Lord’s pitch offers some assistance early.

WGL best bets: Pakistan v South Africa

Each of our ICC World Cup betting previews will highlight some potential wins for punters, or where our cricket tipsters think there is value to be found.

Mohammad Amir man of the match at $11

The leftie has been a star of the tournament and caused all sorts of problems for even the best batsmen. No reason he can’t run through South Africa’s at times shaky line-up.

Pakistan v South Africa prediction

Our WGL cricket tipsters don’t feel strongly about the result of this match so we will stick largely to focusing on those players in great form; namely Mohammad Amir for Pakistan. We don’t think the Proteas have done that much to deserve favouritism here, though to be fair they have had a daunting draw in the first half of the tournament. Good punting.
