PGA Tour suspends Matt Gogel for betting on golf
PGA Tour Champions golfer Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months after admitting to placing bets on golf tournaments in breach of the PGA Tour’s gambling rules.
The PGA Tour said Gogel wagered on PGA Tour-sanctioned competitions, although none of the bets involved tournaments in which he was competing.
His suspension begins on August 23 and runs until February 22, 2027, preventing him from competing in any PGA Tour-sanctioned event during that period.

Gogel described the bets as “small recreational wagers on golf” placed during 2024 and 2025 and said he had not realised they breached Tour regulations.
“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions,” Gogel said.
The PGA Tour’s integrity programme prohibits players from betting on PGA Tour competitions regardless of whether they are participating in the event.
Gogel becomes the latest professional golfer sanctioned under the rules. Korn Ferry Tour players Vince India and Jake Staiano were both suspended in 2023 for betting-related violations involving PGA Tour competitions.
The 55-year-old Gogel won once during his PGA Tour career, capturing the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He later moved into broadcasting before joining PGA Tour Champions after turning 50.
Gogel was 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings at the time of his suspension.
