Players Championship 2020 betting predictions, tips & odds update

US Open betting guide 2020

WELCOME to our free betting predictions and tips for the 2020 Players Championship at the fantastic TPC Sawgrass, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Of course, the Players is one of the highlights of the PGA Tour season; it is played on the Pete Dye-designed masterpiece feature on of the most famous holes in golf and is considered the fifth major.
The Players Championship features arguably the strongest field of any tournament, with 47 of the top 50 lining up to battle for $US15 million in prizemoney in 2020, with the winner scooping $2.7 million.

Guide: How to bet on golf

The wounded Tiger Woods, a two-time winner, is one of the few top players unable to make the first tee this time around.
Last year the tournament was moved from a May date to March, meaning a lusher course and one which can now favour the longer hitters. When it was played in May, the course had plenty of run and the bigger problem for the big hitters was keeping the ball in play.
Still, no players has won the title three times, and only five have won it twice; it is a notoriously difficult tournament to pick the winner of but we believe now the course is playing longer and softer, the number of potential winners has been greatly reduced.
The famous hole we referred to earlier is of course the iconic 17th. Although it is short and players will pull no more than a nine iron, it involves a knee-knocking carry over water to an island green. Many a champion player has gone to water, literally, at the 17th on a tough Sunday afternoon.

Tips for betting on 2020 Players Championship

    • Length off the tee has become important again, as with the course soft shorter players can be playing long irons into tough greens.
    • Accuracy with irons is paramount at this course. It really is a course suited to the best ball strikers.
    • Nerves of steel. The infamous finishing stretch is crucial, on each of the four days, but especially Sunday.

Phoenix Open best bets & predictions

The World Gambling List team has looked through the sportsbooks for the Players Championship and given you our best bet, roughie of the tournament and even thrown in a value bet for good measure.

Best bet: Xander Schauffele to win

Schauffele is paying $29.00 to win this tournament, and we give him a great chance as he has shown he loves the big stage. Yes, he still has to prove he can win on the biggest stages of all, but if he keeps putting himself in position the Californian will eventually break through. He is too good player not to. He is fast approaching the unenviable tag of best player not to have won a major.

Roughie: Louis Oosthuizen at $81

The South African star is a major winner and a frequent contender in the big events, including at this course in the past. His form has not been great this year but he has also played sparingly. When he is up and going there are few better and even though he is not large in stature he hits the ball prodigious distances so it suit by the softer course. You should shop around for better odds but William Hill was offering $81 about a win for Oosthuizen.

Players Championship value bet tip: Billy Horschel

Odds around the $71 are freely available for the Florida native and he has been in good enough form to suggest he won’t be too far down the leaderboard. He would know this course as well as anyone, so we are happy to back Horschel in several categories including to finish top 5 at around $17.
