The Everest 2020 runner-by-runner guide

Welcome to our Randwick preview and racing tips for Saturday, May 23, 2020.

It’s a fairly standard winter meeting with the main race the Octagonal Handicap, but there are a plethora of talented types being tested out for a possible trip to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival there.

The big stables all have multiples runners and some of Australian’s best jockeys, including a few who feature on our list of the world’s best jockeys 2020, are in action.

So we have examined the card to come up with Randwick racing tips for followers.

The Randwick track is likely to be rain-affected with showers forecast for the next few days so be sure to check on the day.

Read on for our free Randwick tips for the nine-race meeting being run on May 23, 2020.

Randwick race 1, Darley Handicap, 11.30am local time (1300m)

The first race at Randwick has attracted a handy field of juveniles with many of the runners on trial for a trip north to Brisbane  for the Group 1 J.J. Atkins Stakes. Heading that list is the Chris Waller-prepared 7.Overlord. He is a blue colt by Sebring from the bonny mare Red Tracer, though he has lowered his colours twice to the unbeaten colt 2.Peltzer from the Gerald Ryan stable.  Peltzer is conceding Overlord 3kg now so there should not be much between them. But we are keen on the chances of 12.Perfect Radiance, a Snitzel filly which carries only 54.5kg for jockey Brenton Avdulla and should get the run of the race from gate three.

Our tip: Perfect Radiance is at $4.60 with Unibet and looks a good bet to upstage the colts, while 9.Yangtze Rapids should be overlook at a big price. He looks suited out to 1300m.

Randwick race 5, At Sea Handicap, 1.55pm local time (1100m)

The Godolphin runner 3.Coruscate is a consistent performer and is returning to Sydney after beginning his campaign in Melbourne. Coruscate looks ideally suited back to Randwick and the 1100m is his best distance. The obvious danger is the hot favourite 5.Southern Lad, with James McDonald in the saddle. He has teamed up with great success with Southern Lad’s trainer John O’Shea. 4.Sandbar has run well fresh in the past, while 8.Murillo will appreciate the drop in class.

Our tip: Coruscate at $4 with Unibet. If you can’t secure that price possibly wait until close to the race. He should get every chance on the big track with a little bit of speed engaged in the race to ensure a genuine tempo.
