Richmond v Sydney betting tips and prediction; AFL rd 3 preview 2021

Welcome to our Richmond v Sydney tips, predictions and odds analysis for the AFL round 3 clash being played at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

A battle between two unbeaten teams, Richmond is the short-priced favourite to win this clash, priced at $1.19 to win, but the Swans ($4.75) are not without claims after winning their opening two matches of the season.

Richmond has not missed a beat in their premiership defence, defeating Carlton and Hawthorn with a minimum of fuss, with their good players continuing their remarkable run of form that has netted the Tigers three premierships.

Sydney has openly admitted they are rebuilding, but have been the surprise packets, beating premiership fancy Brisbane and the much-improved Adelaide.

Richmond has few injuries to worry about and could recall Bachar Houli, but he may also be given a week in the VFL after overcoming his calf injury. Nick Vlastuin should be ready to return after missing the win over the Hawks.

Sydney will give young midfielder James Rowbottom every chance to prove his fitness after suffering a slight knee injury against the Crows, while they are also weighing up whether to rest veteran forward Lance Franklin. Franklin returned last round, but they will be conservative given he has barely played in two years.

Richmond v Sydney tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the markets and found some free Richmond v Sydney tips and value bets.

Tom Lynch to kick 3+ goals

One player who has been subdued in 2021 has been Richmond forward Tom Lynch, but he is coming off a limited preseason. We think it might finally be time for Lynch to fire, with these rules that contribute to faster ball movement, seemingly made for the athletic tall. He is paying $1.77 to kick 3+ goals.

Dion Prestia to get 30+ touches

Star Tiger Dion Prestia has become their main man in the midfield and he generally knocks up getting possessions. Prestia’s hard running and contested work make him a tough target to tag and hard to stop getting the ball. He will be around the 30 possessions mark and he offers nice value at $2.80 to reach it.

Isaac Heeney to kick 2+ goals

Heeney is the player the Swans want to develop into their very own Dustin Martin and while he has not reached those heights yet, he is undoubtedly a gifted player. Heeney is paying $1.90 with Australian betting sites kick 2+ goals.

Richmond v Sydney prediction 3/1

Richmond is likely to start favourite in almost all games this season and we cannot see the Swans proving to be a major speed bump. The Tigers are just the ultimate team and we can’t wait to see them play another premiership contender, to see if they are deserved flag favourites in 2021. Sydney will fancy their chances of a boilover, but the MCG encounter will prove a bridge too far. Our final Richmond v Sydney prediction? Tigers by 24 points.
