Jannik Sinner is the new favourite for the French Open, following news of his chief rival’s wrist injury.

World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz announced this week he is in a race against time to be fit for Roland Garros, throwing the men’s draw into uncertainty just weeks out from the second Grand Slam of the year.

With that update, Alcaraz’s odds have eased to 2.60, while Sinner has firmed into a clear 1.70 favourite to claim his maiden French Open title. The Italian has been in dominant form in 2026 and now shapes as the player to beat on clay if Alcaraz is below his best or ruled out entirely.

Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, withdrew from both the Barcelona Open and Madrid Open due to the wrist issue, with further tests set to determine his participation at the Italian Open and Paris. The Spaniard is the defending champion at Roland Garros, making his fitness a major storyline heading into the tournament.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” Alcaraz said.

“The next test will be crucial, so to speak. We are trying to do everything that is in our power so that test turns out well.”

Behind the top two, the French Open market opens up significantly. Alexander Zverev sits at 12.00, with Novak Djokovic at 13.00, while emerging talents like Arthur Fils (17.00) and Jack Draper (21.00) are gaining attention.

Clay specialists Casper Ruud (29.00) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (41.00) could also benefit if Alcaraz is compromised, leaving this year’s French Open shaping as one of the most open in recent memory.
