MATCH INFO
South Africa v India
Venue: Hampshire Bowl, Southampton, Wednesday, June 5, 10.30am (British time)
Head to head odds: South Africa $2.60; India $1.50
Last time they met: India 2-206 (32.1 overs) d South Africa 204 (46.5 overs) in Centurion, South Africa, February 16, 2018.

Cricketing powerhouse India makes its long-awaited debut in this tournament and, going by the bookies’ prices, should score a comfortable win against the battle-scarred South Africa.

Oh if only it were that simple.

You can be sure of one thing about this match in Southampton: South Africa will be desperate. After losses to England and Bangladesh, if they drop this game their hopes of breaking their World Cup hoodoo are as good as dead.

The Proteas’ bowling was ineffective against Bangladesh and, after a bright start against England, the home side still managed to crack the 300 mark. This is a huge worry coming up against the powerful Indian batting line-up.

India’s players will have been anxious to get started. They are ranked No.2 in ODI cricket and No.1 in Test cricket. They are a battle-hardened outfit with great batsmen and a strong bowling attack including the rising superstar paceman Jasprit Bumrah.

Playing against a team that has already had two ODIs in the past week may prove a disadvantage but India should be professional enough to hit the ground running.

This South Africa-India betting preview will run you through betting options for match 8 of 48 of the ICC World Cup 2019.

HEAD TO HEAD BETTING:

South Africa $2.60, India $1.50
Prediction: South Africa will be desperate to get on the board but their bowling has lacked real punch so far, possibly held back by pre-tournament injury worries. Their batting has also not look convincing. They have had a tough few matches to start this event and it does not get any easier here against India, who as always will have plenty of crowd support.

v Australia: Shikhar Dhawan 143
v Australia: Virat Kohli 123
v Australia: Virat Kohli 116
v Australia: Kedar Jadhav 81no

Top batter prediction: We have been on the Quinton de Kock bandwagon and he did the business in the opening game by top-scoring against England. We will stick with him again. Hopefully he has gotten the T20 impulses from the Indian Premier League out of his system and is ready to be patient and notch up a big one.

For India, of course Virat Kohli heads the top batter betting but he has a couple of players above him in the batting order who also have great records, especially Shikhar Dhawan, who was highest scorer at the 2017 Champions Trophy tournament in England. We will back Dhawan at $4.50 with William Hill and have a saver on Kohli.

TOP WICKET-TAKER BETTING:

South Africa:

Top five in betting: Kagiso Rabada $3.50, Imran Tahir $3.75, Dale Steyn $4.50, Andile Phehlukwayo $5, Tabraiz Shamsi $5.

Top wicket-takers from past five ODIs:
v Bangladesh: Imran Tahir 2-57, Chris Morris 2-73, Andile Phehlukwayo 2-52
v England: Lungi Ngidi 3-68
v Sri Lanka: Kagiso Rabada 3-50
v Sri Lanka: Anrich Nortje 3-57
v Sri Lanka: Imran Tahir 2-19

India:
Top five in betting: Jasprit Bumrah $3.25, Kuldeep Yadav $3.75, Bhuvneshwar Kumar $4.50, Yuzvendra Chahal $4.50, Mohammed Shami $5.50.

Top wicket-takers from past five ODIs:
v Australia: Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-48
v Australia: Jasprit Bumrah 3-63
v Australia: Kuldeep Yadav 3-64
v Australia: Kuldeep Yadav 3-54
v Australia: Mohammed Shami 2-44, Jasprit Bumrah 2-60, Kuldeep Yadav 2-46

Top bowler tip: South African spearhead Kagiso Rabada does not look his usual dynamic self so far. Imran Tahir is a noted wicket-taker and batsmen tend to take an aggressive approach against him so we will have a small bet on the spinner to be South Africa’s leading wicket-taker.
It’s India’s first match so it’s hard to know how the bowlers will come out but we would like to be able to bet on Bumrah landing the ball right on the spot with his first ball. His accuracy is unequalled in recent years and we will back him to cause all sorts of problems for the Proteas’ batsmen and take more wickets.

South Africa to finish bottom

South Africa to finish bottom at the ICC World Cup is paying a staggering $13 and after losses to England and Bangladesh there have been some frailties exposed – none more so than their predictable bowling attack. It’s remarkable really that such a traditional World Cup power has struggled so badly. While the juicy odds on this are tempting, there are nine other teams in contention to finish bottom. Here are all the odds:

South Africa v India prediction

Here at the World Gambling List we are just thrilled India are finally make an appearance. They are the last team to start their campaign out of the 10 competing. It’s always a pleasure watching the likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Dhawan bat. If they have timed their preparation right, they should simply be too strong for the South Africans at a neutral venue. Of course we expect the Proteas to hit back hard, but this does not seem to be their year. We are predicting India to win this match and may even have a little on them to win the ICC World Cup.
