Switzerland announce experienced squad for World Cup
Switzerland have named an experienced 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup, with coach Murat Yakin leaning heavily on players who have already performed on the tournament stage.
Captain Granit Xhaka and Ricardo Rodriguez are set for their fourth consecutive World Cup, while 17 members of the squad were part of Switzerland’s 2022 campaign in Qatar.
Yakin has also included Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni after his recovery from a knee injury, while uncapped goalkeeper Marvin Keller is among six players heading to a major tournament for the first time.
The main omissions are Young Boys attackers Alvyn Sanches and Joel Monteiro, despite both featuring in recent national-team plans.
