The Swans held off a gallant North Melbourne by eight points in Melbourne last round, taking their record to eight wins from nine games.

Dean Cox’s team is set to be boosted by three key inclusions with Charlie Curnow, Tom McCartin and Jai Serong all recalled after minor ailments.

They have managed veteran Dane Rampe, while Matt Roberts (injured) and Hayden McLean go out of the line-up.

The Magpies have endured a week under the media blowtorch after being thrashed by 54 points by reigning premier Brisbane at the Gabba.

They will also lose their no.1 ruckman Darcy Cameron to a knee injury, Pat Lipinski (concussion), Darcy Moore (concussion), and veteran Scott Pendlebury (rested).

The Magpies inclusions are young midfielder Ed Allen, Charlie West, Wil Parker and Will Hayes, but Norm Smith Medallist Bobby Hill will spentd at least another week at the lower level

Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Sydney v Collingwood betting tips:

Charlie Curnow 3+ goals

The Swans spearhead was beginning to look ominous before his week off. He’ll be looking to feast on an undersized Magpies backline, which will be missing his old foe Darcy Moore. Curnow is paying 1.90 to kick 3+ goals.

Ed Allen 20+ possessions

The Magpies youngster has been prolific at the lower level, but does not tend to break into the midfield in the senior team. This week might be different, given the Pies woes in there, and their need for some running power. He’s also a juicy 3.20 with Neds to reach 20 possessions. Another to take into consideration, Jordan De Goey, played predominately midfield last week and reached 30 possessions for the first time in a long time.

Collingwood + 35. 5

The Magpies were pantsed by Geelong last week, which is a rare for them in Craig McRae’s reign. They are going to be severely tested again here, against the dynamic Swans, but we expect them to fight all the way, and not get blown away again. The line is also a massive 35.5 which looms as a bridge too far for the Swans, against a Pies team that will be desperate to avoid another embarrassment.

Sydney v Collingwood prediction

The Swans are banking early season wins and putting themselves in a strong position for a top four spot and deep finals run. This game looks well within their grasps, given their opponent’s injury and form woes. But any team with Nick Daicos and Jordan De Goey in the engine room should not be underestimated. Our final Swans v Pies prediction? Swans by 19 points.
