Losses to Australia and England have not dampened the positivity surrounding the West Indies, but they must beat Bangladesh to be any chance of making the semi-finals of the cricket World Cup.

To be played at County Ground, Taunton, the West Indies have been installed a $1.36 favourite to defeat Bangladesh ($3.10).

The Windies’ one victory came over Pakistan in their opening match, with this followed by two losses and a washout. Monday’s game against the emerging Bangladesh is a must-win encounter if Jason Holder’s men are to cause trouble at the pointy end of the tournament.

There is an ongoing injury concern surrounding Andre Russell and it’s hard to see the all-rounder playing on Monday after he limped from the field for a second time this tournament during the loss to England.

The Lions are not without claims in this match, having defeated South Africa and pushing New Zealand all the way earlier in the tournament. But an injury to Shakib Al Hasan has him in doubt and they do not have the depth to cover one of the world’s best all-rounders.

The World Gambling List is previewing the top batsman betting market for ICC World Cup match 23/48 between the West Indies and Bangladesh.

Top batsman betting predictions

West Indies top batter betting:

Top five in betting: Chris Gayle $3.50, Shai Hope $4.33, Evin Lewis $5, Darren Bravo $5.50, Nicholas Pooran $5.50

Top scorers from past five ODIs:
v England: Nicholas Pooran 63
v South Africa: Match abandoned
v Australia: Shai Hope 68
v Pakistan: Chris Gayle 50
v Bangladesh: Shai Hope 74

West Indies top batter betting tip: Chris Gayle has been serviceable this tournament without really making a big score. While his running between wickets is somewhat of a liability, the self-proclaimed “Universe Boss” has unflappable belief in himself and the $4.50 to top score against Bangladesh is too tempting for us. Another option to bet on the Windies’ power hitter is a special market at WilliamHill.com which allows you to bet on Gayle to make more or less than 34.5. We’re going for the former and hopefully for cricket he bats for a while.

Bangladesh best batsman tips:

Top five in betting: Tamim Iqbal $4, Mushfiqur Rahim $4.50, Soumya Sarkar $5, Shakib Al Hasan $5, Liton Das $5.50.

Top scorers from past five ODIs:
v England: Shakib Al Hasan 121
v New Zealand: Shakib Al Hasan 64
v South Africa: Mushfiqur Rahim 78
v West Indies: Soumya Sarkar 66
v Ireland: Liton Das 76

Bangladesh Prediction: Shakib Al Hasan has been in tremendous form for Bangladesh, but he is under an injury cloud. We think he will play but probably won’t bowl. This niggle is enough for us to look a little deeper in the Bangladesh batting line-up and we really like Mushfiqur Rahim, who is likely to bat at four or five and get an opportunity to bat for a long period.

West Indies vs Bangladesh winner prediction

Everyone wants the Windies to do well at this tournament, because they’re a team full of entertainers. The thing that has impressed us the most about them at the cricket World Cup has been the consistency. With classy young batsmen coming in after Gayle, the Windies are no longer over reliant on one or two players which creates consistency in performance. We are predicting Gayle to explode and the Windies to win this one easily.
