Springboks confirmed as world’s top rugby team for 2024

South Africa’s crushing 45-12 victory over Wales has confirmed them as the top team in the World Rugby rankings for 2024.
The world champions were ruthless on Sunday in inflicting Wales’ 12th successive loss and completed their first undefeated tour of Europe in 11 years.
While the victory did not earn the Springboks any rankings points, they now cannot be caught by Ireland, who play their final match for 2024 against Australian on Saturday.
The Springboks will finish the year as the top-ranked rugby team ahead of Ireland, New Zealand, France and Argentina.
Traditional rugby powers Australia (eighth) and England (seventh) are languishing in the rankings.
The Springboks European tour also included a victory over England (29-20), while they opened the tour with an impressive 32-15 win over Scotland.
The Springboks are 3-1 with South African bookmakers to win the 2027 World Cup, behind the Kiwis, who are favoured to win the re-imagined 24-team event, due to be played in Australia.
