Real money gambling games are available on the internet despite the gambling laws in Bangladesh, with these ranging from online slots, to online poker, right through to virtual games and spinoffs of classic titles.

The most popular casino games at Bangladeshi gambling sites include online slots, which include titles with progressive jackpots that might be worth into the millions of Taka, live dealer, which encompasses all your table games like blackjack, roulette and baccarat.

Online poker is also very popular in Bangladesh, with it played both informally and online, with Texas Hold’em and Omaha as both cash games and multi-table tournaments. While the big poker rooms like GGPoker and 888Sports do not accept players from Bangladesh, other poker sites will accept players from here.

While the online world has taken much of the steam out of illegal gambling houses in Bangladesh, you will still find many traditional gambling games played around the country, although these are usually played for low stakes and ignored by authorities. These include card games like Call Bridge and Twenty-Nine, which is probably the no.1 card game in the country.

Traditional Bangladeshi gambling games

While gambling is illegal in Bangladesh, there are some traditional games that are played for (usually small) stakes, at a social level, which have stood the test of time and remain popular today.

Twenty-Nine (29)

Twenty Nine is a popular card game in Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s best-known card game (a Jass-family trick-taker). Hugely popular at village gatherings and city tea stalls; people may “put something on it” informally.

Twenty Nine can is played in two teams, with the winning team the one that has bid and successfully completed their tricks. The team that ultimately gets the most points wins. This game is similar to 500 and Euchre from other cultures.

Call Bridge / Call Break

Call Bridge is played for real money in Bangladesh

Call Bridge (Bangladesh’s go-to trick-taking card game) is played by four with a 52-card deck. Each player gets 13 cards; spades are permanent trumps. After seeing their hands, players make a “call”—the number of tricks they expect to win. Forehand leads; you must follow suit if able, otherwise you may play any card (including a trump).

The highest card of the led suit wins unless a trump is played; then the highest trump wins. Meet or beat your call to score +call (common variants add 0.1 per over-trick); fail and you lose that amount. Games run 5–8 deals with dealer rotating clockwise.

Housie / Tambola (90-ball bingo)

A staple of club socials, fairs, and family events; typically played for token prizes. (You’ll even find housie sets sold by Bangladeshi retailers.)

House or Bingo is played all around the world, and it is very popular in Bangladesh. Essentially pick your numbers, hope they get drawn and you could be the winner. While there is no formal state sanctioned Tambola in Bangladesh, unlike places like Australia and the UK, it is very popular at a casual level.

Cowrie-shell toss games

Cowrie Shell Toss games are played for real money in Bangladesh

Cowrie-shell toss games are simple chance-and-skill pastimes found across South Asia, including Bangladesh. Players shake a handful of cowries in the palms and cast them onto a cloth or tray. Scores come from how many shells land mouth-up versus mouth-down, with combinations earning bonuses or penalties.

A common format uses four to sixteen shells; turns are rapid and stakes, if any, are small. House rules vary: some allow rerolls after certain patterns, others build a running total to a target score. Cowries are cheap, tactile, and portable, which is why the game thrives at fairs, tea stalls, and village gatherings.

Pachisi / Chaupar

Subcontinental cross-and-circle board games historically played with cowries or stick-dice; in some eras/places they were associated with wagering. This game is considered a precursor to the insanely popular Ludo.

Ludo

Ludo is popular in Bangladesh — played at home and on mobile gambling apps. The game, derived from Pachisi, uses a cross-shaped board for 2–4 players. Each player has four tokens that begin in a start area. You roll a die; a 6 is required to enter a token onto your first square and grants another roll.

Tokens move clockwise along the track toward your home column, then into the home triangle by exact count. Landing on an opponent’s token captures it back to start; certain squares are safe. Blockades of two same-color tokens cannot be passed.

Bangladeshi online gambling 2025

For such a big industry, gambling in Bangladesh has taken up very little brainpower among lawmakers, and while there have been several attempts at banning offshore operators, these gambling sites continue to accept players from this part of the world.

The most important gambling law in Bangladesh is the Public Gaming Act. 1867, which essentially states that “keeping or visiting gambling houses” is banned. With no carveouts having been created for the likes of online casinos or poker sites, authorities view gambling as unlawful activity, and have repeatedly asked regulators to block offshore sites and associated payment methods.

Restricting online gambling in Bangladesh has had mixed success at best. Some major gambling sites that did accept Bangladesh customers have withdrawn, but much like in other countries, operators based out of Curacao and other Asian-friendly regulators have filled the breach.

The Bangladeshi High Court has also demanded a crackdown on the advertising of gambling and betting promotions online, although the enforcement of this mandate is almost impossible, with no jurisdiction over foreign casino operators.

Because there is no local licensing for online gambling, you do not have any recourse in your own country if things go wrong, which means you really should investigate any operators thoroughly before committing real money to the cause. These Bangladeshi gambling sites could also be blocked by regulators, although this is easily avoided with a VPN.

The one exemption for online gambling practices, is state-authorised lottery, which can receive permission under Penal Code §294A.

Real money gambling apps are more restricted in Bangladesh than other sub-continent countries, although the most popular smartphones are Androids, which are cater for when it comes to software.

With Android betting, which includes users on Xiaomo, Samsungs and various other devices, you can turn on non-market apps which allows you to download via third party sources, and not only via the Google Play outlet.

While Apple is active in Bangladesh they only have a small market share, and you won’t find any gambling apps in the App Store, because of local laws.

Huawei smartphone users can download gambling apps via the AppGallery, but not all real money iGaming sites cater to the Chinese smartphone company.

The good news is, if you don’t want to download Bangladeshi gambling apps, most operators have fully functional mobile websites, with this just a matter of visiting the URL in your web browser.

Gambling apps in Bangladesh, no matter what smartphone you are using, are much the same across all platforms, although apps tend to have more bells and whistles than standard websites.

Gambling laws in Bangladesh

Bangladesh, unlike other Asian countries, has not regulated online gambling and there are currently no plans to do so.

The main gambling law in Bangladesh i the Public Gambling Act. 1867, which makes running or visiting a “common gaming house” illegal, with these laws applicable throughout the whole country, since it became independent in 1971.

Although these gambling laws pre-date the internet, authorities include online gambling and wagering as illegal because there is licensing regime to make it legal.

While millions of Bangladeshis gamble online, there has been very little movement on regulating the industry; rather there has been increased policing of the laws, including in 2025 when the government ordered banks and payment services to step up their monitoring efforts. These include the use of AI monitoring tools to find payments to offshore operators.

Bangladeshi authorities have also clamped down on physical casinos in the country, which tend to be based out of Dhaka clubs, although these dwindled in numbers during the covid pandemic, with heavy restrictions on people movement in this period.

So in essence, there is no legal way to run gambling sites or gamble online from Bangladesh, although the offshore gambling operators that do accept customers from here are generally safe. If any gambling sites claim to be “Bangladesh-licensed” they are lying or misleading, so always do your homework.

Payment options at Taka gambling sites

There are numerous payment options available at Taka online casinos with these include popular credit and debit cards, web wallets, cryptocurrencies and even bank transfers. While these online gambling payment methods have all worked at one time or another, there has been a renewed push by authorities to block some financial transactions to operators.

The payment options that are most likely to be blocked include locally regulated options like bKash and Nagad, although the last time we attempted to deposit the Taka currency to an offshore company using them we had no issues.

Most payment options at Bangladeshi gambling sites are instant with these including cards like Visa, web wallets, cryptos and payment processors like Rocket, that work hand-in-hand with local banks.

Most payment options at Bangladeshi gambling sites have got low fees, with customers more likely to be slugged when they withdraw, rather than fund their account.

Small fees might be charged by Visa, Mastercard and some web wallets when funding Taka gambling sites.
