Essendon v Carlton betting tips for AFL round 13 2026

Welcome to our Essendon v Carlton betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 13 clash at the MCG on Sunday night.

The Blues (1.18) are heavy favourites to defeat the Bombers (4.90) with Aussie betting sites, after winning three successive matches to start Josh Fraser’s reign as interim coach.

The Bombers-Blues line has been set at 30.5 points, while the match total points mark is currently sitting at 170.5 points.

The interim coaching role has not been as smooth sailing for Dean Solomon after taking over from Brad Scott in the Bombers’ hot seat a fortnight ago.

His first clash in charge resulted in a five goal loss to West Coast, with this match again shaping as a tough one, despite several quality players returning from injury.

The Bombers have recalled Mason Redman, Sam Durham, Harrison Jones and Hussien El Achkar, but this is tempered by losing consistent midfielder Darcy Parrish, Archer May, Thomas Edwards and Jade Gresham.

Carlton has also suffered a major blow in the lead-up to this clash, with fullback Jacob Weitering set to miss with injury, with Wade Derksen his replacement, in what will be Lachie Cowan’s 50th AFL game.

Essendon v Carlton betting tips

Keep an eye on the weather for Sunday night’s clash and if it’s raining downgrade the goal-kickers. WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Essendon v Carlton tips:

Nate Caddy 3+ goals

The Bombers young star must have had a spring in his step all week at the news of Weitering being absent, with his likely opponent now youngster Harry Dean. Caddy is insanely talented, but can struggle for opportunities and in a game where his team should not be blown away, he looms as a trump card. He’s paying 2.35 to kick 3+ goals.

Mitch McGovern 3+ goals

The big Blue has become one of their most consistent avenues to goal, in a forward line that has looked much more dangerous with Brodie Kemp and Jack Ison there. He’s also offering nice value this week at 3.60 to kick 3+ goals. You could also do worse than taking Flynn Young for 2+, especially if it’s wet, with the mid-sized forward kicking multiple goals in three of the Blues last four games.

Sam Durham 25+ possessions

Durham is clearly one of the Bombers’ best when he’s on the park. After a break with injury, he should be fit and ready for this one. His odds have also ballooned out to 2.70 to reach 25 possessions – a feat he has done many times before.

Essendon v Carlton prediction

It feels weird saying the “in-form Blues” but they have been a different outfit under Fraser and they would be bitterly disappointed to lose this one against the struggling Dons. The Blues midfield has Essendon’s covered, especially with the outstanding form of Patrick Cripps, while they have more weapons in the front half. If the Bombers are to cause an upset, it will take an extraordinary game from Zach Merrett, especially wth Parrish now injured. But if you insist on taking the Bombers, you could do worse than taking them +30.5  Our final Essendon v Carlton prediction? Blues by 26 points.
