Dockers versus Cats - AFL Semi-final betting tips

Welcome to our Fremantle v Geelong betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL semi-final at Optus Stadium on Friday night.

The Dockers are a 1.55 favourite to defeat the Cats (2.47), with the line set at 10.5 points and the over/under total points mark at around 173.5 points with Aussie betting sites

The Dockers and Cats have played twice this season with a win apiece, both coming at their home grounds, although both matches were decided by a combined 19 points.

Fremantle is sweating on the fitness of Brandon Walker (ankle) after he suffered an injury against Hawthorn, and after missing several training sessions this week, Judd McVee looms as the likely replacement.

Geelong has just four players on the injury list, with these including veteran ruckman Rhys Stanley, who is listed as a Test, and appears unlikely to play at either AFL or VFL this weekend.

The Cats have also confirmed Hawks recruit James Worpel’s season is over, after undergoing hamstring surgery, with this the latest setback in his bid to establish himself in Chris Scott’s team.

The Cats proved far too strong for Carlton in their qualifying final, with their forward options and midfield’s ability to shut down the Blues short-kicking game a highlight.

WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Fremantle v Geelong betting tips:

Shannon Neale 3+ goals

Neale was the difference when the Cats defeated the Dockers in Victoria, with 5.1, in their 10-point victory. He is likely to face Alex Pearce and looms as the key to Cats forward line. In recent weeks, his former running mate Jeremy Cameron has played upfield, with this a lever Scott can pull if the Cats are struggling to score.  Another Cat, Jack Martin has a great record against Fremantle, including a match winning three goal haul earlier this season. Martin is also at a juicy 6.00 to repeat the dose.

Wire to wire margin tip

The Cats are going to come out breathing fire in this clash, but the Dockers will be equally as motivated after their disapointing showing against Hawthorn at home in their first final. We can see the Cats bursting out of the blocks, leading the first half before the Dockers take control in the second half. We will be having a crack at Geelong/Geelong/Fremantle/Fremantle in the end of quarter leaders, which is paying 13.00 with Neds.

Luke Jackson 2+ goals + 20 possessions

Jackson is clearly the Dockers most important player and if he can take young Cat Mitch Edwards to the cleaners it will go a long way to the Dockers winning. Jackson is paying around the 5.00 quote to reach 20 possessions and kick two goals, with the Dockers desperately needing their star man to fire. The Cats will start Edwards in the ruck, but won’t hesitate to send Mark Blicavs to Jackson if he begins to get off the chain.

Fremantle v Geelong prediction

The Cats can cause an upset in this clash, but we suspect the Dockers will hit back hard after the Hawthorn display. After Brisbane’s shock loss in their opening final against an undermanned Swans team, this side of the draw has opened up and this looms as almost a prelim, with the winner to face a Swans team missing the Pullman five and now captain Callum Mills (knee) in a preliminary final. We can’t wait for this clash, with our tip the Dockers to get home in a close one. Fremantle v Geelong match prediction? Dockers by 11 points.
