AFL round 12 odds & schedule – Dees-Lions blockbuster promises plenty

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Melbourne will host Brisbane in what is looming as a blockbuster encounter on Friday night, with both of these teams in fine form ahead of round 12 AFL action.

Even AFL betting sites are struggling to separate the pair, with the Demons a narrow favourite, their odds at $1.77 while the Lions are priced at $2.10 to cause an upset.

The top-of-the-table Demons can potentially move two games clear and go a long way to ensuring a top four finish with a win over the Lions, but their opponent has rattled off five wins in a row and looms as a serious premiership contender.

The clash has been moved from Victoria to NSW following the covid outbreak, which meant some matches were played behind closed doors last round. The AFL has indicated that Victorian teams will spend a maximum of three weeks away, before they reassess if the season can continue.

Other AFL round 12 matches have also been impacted by the covid situation, which has lead Saturday night’s traditional Dreamtime at the G clash between Richmond and Essendon to be moved to Perth.

The Tigers are favourites for this clash with their odds at $1.48, while the greatly-improved Bombers are outsiders at $2.60, but they will take heart after beating West Coast at Optus Stadium last round.

Sydney ($1.37) will host St Kilda ($3.13) in the early game on Saturday, with the Saints needing wins to stay in touch with the top eight. The Swans, who were originally scheduled to travel to Melbourne to play the Saints, are entrenched in the top six and will fancy their chances of pushing for a top four position from here.

Adelaide ($1.45) can heap further misery on Collingwood ($2.70) in the twilight fixture in Adelaide on Saturday, following their hard-fought loss to reigning premier Richmond. The Magpies have shown signs of life in the last fortnight, but still have only won two games this season.

Carlton’s fading finals hopes will go on the line against West Coast at the MCG on Sunday afternoon, following their loss on the road to the Swans. The Blues ($1.75) are 4-7 after 11 rounds but will fancy beating an underwhelming Eagles ($2.06), who are likely to lose Tim Kelly with a serious ankle injury.

Fremantle ($3.15) will host the Western Bulldogs ($1.35) in the final match of AFL round 12 action, with the visitors desperate for a win following their capitulation at the hands of Melbourne.

Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Hawthorn, Geelong and Greater Western Sydney are all scheduled for the bye this weekend.
