AFL round 8 early tips, odds and fixtures

AFL round 11 odds 2021

Richmond and Geelong will open round 8 of the AFL season in what promises to be a bumper clash, between two of the great modern-day rivals on Friday night.

The Tigers have been installed $1.62 favourites with online bookmakers, while the Geelong Cats are paying $2.31 to cause an upset.

The reigning champions reminded everyone why they are so good against the Western Bulldogs last Friday night, when they eclipsed them by 22 points, even without their champion Dustin Martin and several other stars.

Geelong squandered a golden opportunity and big lead against Sydney to be denied a win on the road, after fiery Swans small forward Tom Papley booted a goal to seal the victory in the dying moments.

The pressure is now on the Cats, who are likely to face a Tigers team on a high and with a returning Martin, while they will be without their own star Patrick Dangerfield.

It is a super Saturday of football in round eight, with five games set to be played. The best on paper probably being the Gold Coast v St Kilda clash, with both of these teams vying for the lower rungs of the top eight.

The Suns, who will have a home-ground advantage, are at $1.90 to win while St Kilda are at $1.94, but showed with their big win over Hawthorn that their best footy is in front of them.

Gold Coast are also coming off a rare win on the road after defeating a disappointing Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. While the Magpies had in a young outfit, the Suns were super-impressive, led by their midfield veterans Touk Miller and Hugh Greenwood.

On Sunday there are three games of round 8 action, with Hawthorn expected to lose to West Coast, the Western Bulldogs heavy favourites against Carlton and Fremantle will likely jump outsiders when they host Brisbane.

Below you will find the latest AFL premiership odds and round 8 AFL odds for the 2021 season.

AFL Premiership odds prior to round eight

Melbourne continue to firm in AFL premiership betting despite losing Adam Tomlinson for the season with an ACL injury. The Demons have been trimmed from $6.50 into $5.50 after their hard-fought victory over struggling North Melbourne.

Geelong ($7.50 to $10) and GWS ($67 to $34) were the big market movers after round 7, following the Cats’ shock loss to Sydney on the road and the Giants’ demolition job over Adelaide.

Collingwood’s premiership odds have gone into free-fall, the one-time top four fancy slumping to 17th on the ladder after a shock loss to the Gold Coast at the MCG on Saturday.
