AFL round 9 odds and early tips – Cats primed for Saints showdown
Welcome to our AFL odds analysis and free early tips for round 9 of the AFL season, which begins on Friday, May 14, and finishes on Sunday, May 16.
St Kilda ($3.03) will host Geelong ($1.39) at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, after their morale-boosting come-from-behind win over the Gold Coast.
The Cats are deserved favourites after their 63-point humiliation of reigning premiers Richmond, which was highlighted by a brilliant display from big forwards Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins.

Saturday’s games open with Sydney ($1.33) hosting Collingwood ($3.36) at the the SCG, which looms as an interesting battle between an in-form Swans and an ordinary Magpies, who narrowly beat North Melbourne last outing.
The Magpies have been dealt a double blow with tall defender Jordan Roughhead and promising Nathan Murphy to miss after suffering head knocks against the Roos. The return of spring-heeled defender Jeremy Howe has also been put back to late in the season as he requires hamstring surgery.
Hawthorn are a $1.48 favourite to win their clash against the Kangaroos ($2.67) at University of Tasmania. The Hawks fought bravely for a half against West Coast, but ultimately showed their inexperience in the big moments.
Gold Coast ($3.55) are not expected to challenge Brisbane ($1.30) in the traditional Q clash at Metricon Stadium. The Suns simply ran out of legs against St Kilda and it would be a truly remarkable effort to defeat the battle-hardened Lions.
Richmond are short-priced favourites with Australian bookmakers to defeat GWS at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night, having been priced at $1.32 to win, despite being thrashed by the Cats last outing and suffering several more injury blows. The Tigers will be without star midfielder Shai Bolton as he suffered a broken wrist in a nightclub incident.
The Giants have won successive matches with their latest a heart-stopping two-point win over Essendon.
Port Adelaide ($1.61) and the Western Bulldogs ($2.32) clash at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday in what is looming as match-of-the-round. The Power are fresh off a big win in the derby against the Crows, while the Western Bulldogs stormed over the top of Carlton in an ominous display.
On Sunday, Essendon ($1.77) are narrow favourites against Fremantle ($2.10), Melbourne ($1.27) are expected to account for Carlton ($3.80) and West Coast Eagles ($1.10) are too short to bet on in their clash against Adelaide ($7).
