Anderson v Zverev betting tips & prediction; US Open tennis 2020
Welcome to our Kevin Anderson v Alexander Zverev betting tips, prediction and odds update, ahead of their US Open first round clash on Monday.
South Africa’s top tennis player, Anderson has copped a nightmare draw here, with the veteran set to play the German world no.7, in what is potentially his last appearance at Flushing Meadows.
Anderson has not beaten Zverev in five previous encounters and the top tennis betting sites are not expecting anything different here. Their last clash was at the Laver Cup two years ago.
Zverev is a 1.28 favourite with leading bookmaker Betway.co.za, with the powerful Anderson a rank outsider to defeat the German for the first time at 3.33.
Anderson has slipped to 124 in the world rankings but injuries and father time have caught up with the former finalist at the US Open.
Zverev is seeded fifth for this tournament and has a previous best performance at Flushing Meadows of a fourth round appearance.
Both players bombed out of the Western and Southern Open in the first round, and there is very little other form to go on, given the sport has been in the enforced covid-19 hiatus.
The first ATP tournament back was the Western and Southern Open, which was won by world no.1 Novak Djokovic, who will go into the US Open as a hot favourite.
Anderson v Zverev best bet tips
We are not too interested in the Anderson v Zverev betting, largely because we think the German is going to win easily. Anderson will try and dictate his service games with his booming first serve, but if that fails him, which it has done in recent times, this match could be over quickly.
Zverev has an equally as potent service game and moves a lot better than his opponent, but did look out of sorts in his loss to Andy Murray at the Western and Southern Open. He put this down to his “six month layoff” and said he had accepted that there would be some weird results.
Zverev to win 3-0
Anderson’s service game in Cincinnati was well below its best against Stefan Tsitsipas, losing 1-6, 3-6 as he struggled for rhythm. While we would expect it to improve at the US Open, his opponent is simply one of the big contenders here and will want to make a statement early. Zverev is paying 2.88 to win in straight sets, which we think is a strong bet here.
Anderson v Zverev match prediction – 31/8/2020
Zverev is fifth in the betting for the US Open crown at $21 and is worth keeping an eye on throughout the tournament. As for our final Anderson v Zverev match prediction? Zverev to win 3-0.
