Australia v India betting tips, prediction & odds; 4th Test preview

Welcome to our Australia v India tips, predictions & odds update for the 4th Border-Gavaskar Test being played at the Gabba in Brisbane from Friday.

Australia are the $1.45 favourites to win the clash with India ($7) rank outsiders despite batting out the final day to save the third Test and keep the series locked at 1-1 after three matches.

The Indians have been rocked by several new injuries including to star paceman Jasprit Bumrah, who appears unlikely to recover from a side strain, but will be given every chance to press his claims.

Ravindra Jadeja has also been officially ruled out of the fourth Test with a broken thumb, with the all-rounder set to return to India to continue his recovery.

Hanuma Vihari (hamstring) also appears unlikely to take his place in the line-up after being unable to fully extend himself when running between the wickets on the final day, while Ravi Ashwin has been complaining of back pain, but looks likely to play.

Australia have problems of their own with SCG debutant Will Pucovski (shoulder) ruled out, after injuring his shoulder in the field, while there again must be queries on David Warner (groin) after he laboured at times through the third Test.

Australia are likely to either elevate Victorian left-hander Marcus Harris, who is in the Test squad, or move Matthew Wade back to opener and recall Travis Head.

The weather forecast in Brisbane is not looking pretty with rain predicted for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, which is something you must take into consideration when betting on Australia vs India. This could bring the draw into play at $4.25.

Another factor is the strict quarantine measures the teams have been placed in, following the latest covid outbreak in Queensland, which seems to have distracted the visitors more than the home team.

Australia v India betting tips

Our cricket tipsters have examined the odds and found several Australia v India picks for the fourth Test.

Thangarasu  Natarajan most wickets in first innings

Thangarasu Natarajan is the favourite to replace the injured Jasprit Bumrah and we think the left-arm swing bowler could trouble the Australians. While not overly quick, Natarajan has a vicious yorker and could be suited by the cloud cover that will be around in Brisbane on some days. He is paying $4.33 to take the most wickets in Australia’s first bat.

Pat Cummins to win man of the match

Australia’s ironman paceman Pat Cummins has been exceptional this series, without really getting a big bag of wickets. His best was four in India’s second innings in the opening Test of the summer. The conditions at the Gabba will suit his seam upright style of bowling and we think he can finish the summer with a bang and cash in on the Indians missing several of their best batsmen including Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. He is paying $9 with the top betting sites to win man of the match honours.

Steve Smith to top-score for Australia first innings

The Australian talisman endured a lean series up until the third Test at the SCG, where he crunched a ton in the first innings and backed it up with a half-century in the second. We’ve seen in the past, that when Smith gets on a roll he tends to keep it going for a while and the $3.75 on offer for him to make the most runs in the opening innings, especially against an Indian team with no Bumrah, is just too good to pass up.

Australia v India prediction 15/1/2021

India have been incredible this series in trying circumstances, with captain Virat Kohli going home, and injuries hitting them hard. To sit 1-1 after three matches is a huge result and to need just a draw to retain the trophy could see them play a disciplined brand of cricket with both bat and ball. While there is some rain about, the conditions at the Gabba are conducive to getting a result and a negative mindset is not the way to defend at this ground. We will really see how much India have learnt about playing in Australia here, but the fortress up in Queensland is rarely breached. Our final Australia v India prediction? Aussies by five wickets or 200 runs.
