BBL Hurricanes v Renegades

Australia’s Big Bash League is back and our cricket experts have scoured the markets to find some potential value bets to add a little spice to the (southern hemisphere) summer’s viewing.

The BBL is a wonderful betting medium with eight teams competing over the next few months, as the Melbourne Renegades attempt to defend their title.

Many of the world’s best short-form players are engaged in this tournament, which takes on extra significance this time as Australia’s hosts the much-anticipated ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2020.

Also in this edition of the BBL, the finals format has been altered to provide a second chance to the teams which finish first and second on the table after the qualifying matches. This is in response to last season where the Hobart Hurricanes dominated all season only to fall in the semi-finals when the toss did not go their way.

For gamblers in Australia keen to bet on the Big Bash League we can recommend Ladbrokes as a great place to start.

Cash-out option on cricket betting

Ladbrokes offer plenty of options and promotions on each match, as well as season-long bets. The sportsbook also offers cash-out options so if you place a bet, for example, on a player to be the leading run-scorer overall or for a particular team, as the markets are updated between matches, you could have the opportunity to cash out all or part of your wager to lock in a profit.

Best bets for the 2019-2020 Big Bash league

The 2019-20 BBL season is shaping up as a beauty for punters, not only at a team v team level, but also for player betting markets. Below we have highlighted our three BBL best bets that offer some value, but you will also have to wait a while for a payout.

BBL tip 1: Brisbane Heat to win title at $5

This is a stacked team boasting an abundance of batting firepower. They have added boom English youngster Tom Banton to the top order which already has the likes of Chris Lynn and Max Bryant. While Banton is available only for the first eight games, they then gain superstar AB de Villiers for the last six matches and finals. A pretty handy replacement! Also, they have signed BBL wicket-taking champ Ben Laughlin to the bowling attack. In the words of Glenn Frey, the Heat is on.

BBL prediction 2: Daniel Hughes top run-scorer at $21

A quick look at the past top-run scorers in our guide to the BBL and the only player you would want to bet on is D’Arcy Short. But the risk in that is Short may well be called upon to tour India in January and miss quite a few matches. The same problem arises with players such as Alex Hales and James Vince, who could be called up by England for one-day duties. That’s why we see great value in proven run-scorer Hughes, who should open most of not all innings for the Sixers.

BBL tip 3: Go wide in leading wicket-taker betting!

This one is a lottery, as shown by the wide market on leading wicket-taker above. The things is, it’s not always (or even ever) the player who bowls the best who gets the wickets in T20 cricket. The leading wicket-taker could be someone who gets hit for plenty of runs but bowls at the death and always picks up a couple of cheap wickets when the batsmen are going for broke. If we are forced to tip someone to finish top of the pile in this market, we will go with Mitch Swepson from the Heat at big odds (around $51).
