Carlton v St Kilda betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL rd 5 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Carlton and St Kilda square off at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night, thanks a shuffle of the fixture caused by changing COVID-19 protocols in Queensland.

The Blues and Saints were scheduled to clash at the MCG on Saturday but the match has been brought forward two days and switched to Marvel Stadium. Welcome to the new normal of the AFL.

AFL Friday: Collingwood v Essendon betting preview and tips

Both teams come into this match off a short break but they are both on a high; Carlton have won their past two matches, holding off Geelong by two points and Essendon by one point after a narrow loss to Melbourne.

Meanwhile, St Kilda bounced back from a thrashing at the hands of Collingwood to blitz defending premiers Richmond by 26 points on Saturday. The Saints run hard and their off-season recruits have filled some deficiencies.

This is a tricky one to line up, but the teams split their two meetings last season. The Saints won the first encounter by 13 points and Carlton the return clash by 10 points. There does not appear to be much between the teams at this point.

Below we have highlighted our free Carlton v St Kilda tips and given our winner prediction, ahead of Thursday night’s AFL Round 5 clash from Marvel Stadium.

Blues v Saints tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Blues v Saints tips for Thursday’s game.

St Kilda to win 1-39 points at $2.06

We can’t see either team winning this by a big margin, with the Blues of late being involved in a couple of thrillers. They have not been scoring as freely as the Saints can when they are on song. The win against the Tigers will have given the Saints real belief.

Carlton-St Kilda half-time/full-time double

This option is available with Playup at around $6. We can see the Blues holding sway early but they have been playing with fire late and just held on the past two weeks. Maybe their luck will run out and the Saints will overwhelm them in the second half. It will be interesting to see who runs out the game better given they are both coming off short breaks.

Carlton Blues v St Kilda Saints prediction

These are two teams with a real sense of promise about them. They have both endured lean times, particularly the Blues, and now promise to come out the other side. We just think heading into the match St Kilda, coached by one of the Blues’ favourites sons in Brett Ratten, have a slightly higher ceiling at this stage and they are better suited at Marvel Stadium than the Blues. There won’t be much in it but it’s the Saints by 12 points for us.
